Frak it. I’m installing and running a node tonight. Recommendations and suggestions welcome! #asknostr #noderunner

Start9 is nice. If you have an Ubuntu box it's dead simple to build and compile. Could also try nix-bitcoin.
Start9 is what i have for my node, i dont have the technical prowess to do it from scratch.

I run Umbrel on a Pi. It took awhile for the initial sync but since then its been humming along without any issues.
If you have the money, running one in the cloud will give you more options down the road, you can run a serious Lightning node alongside it as well and collect fees but this is more complex and involves more sats up front and knowledge like channel balancing and inbound liquidity.
Also, I have been drinking quite a bit tonight.

MyNode if you’re doing a raspberry pi or Start9 if it’s a more beefy machine
Good hardware first, are you going to use LN?
Have a Laptop with 16gb/1tb running Linux. That should work right. What LN do you recommend?
Only one disk of 1tb or it's mirrored? A 2tb is the new standard to be comfortable (full BTC blockchain and LN data). About LN implementation, it's about of what is your user case, a router node? a personal node to create private channels? Do you need BOLT12?
LND: Lots of docs and people using it, tools, etc.
CLN: Just works.
