It’s a mode that only works for influencers. Two regular friends are not sending each other money like “hell yeah bro!”

Attaching a monetary cost to every interaction is bizarre and unnatural. A “like” is essentially a high five or thumbs up. Acknowledgement from peers just like you get in real life.

Nostr devs need to figure out if Nostr is for regular people or not. As of now it’s pretty much only workable for influencers with pre-existing audiences. nostr:note1hqjkrgdqfx4ht3vdklja29xzp080zd2hk6x0hlqhyaa7g5hza0ssthmcny

Wait until you realize you can still reply and quote repost. A like is just a lazy interaction. If you want to “high five” you can just leave a short comment.

I’m confused about what problem you’re trying to solve in that case.

In your view, how is replying “👍” better than reacting with it?

you can't see the problem when its been normalized and everything uses it. you have to step outside the matrix for awhile to see the benefits.

not seeing peoples reactions on every single one of my posts frees my mind from having to think about that stuff. I just post whatever I want now and don't really think about if people like it or not.

zaps are a bit different. I usually get zapped for releasing new features and things, which keeps me motivated to keep building.

Well said. 💜🫂

I just enabled #onlyzaps

the ‘red bubble’ UI for notifications = mad anxiety and distraction hell

Twitter, FB, IG, TikTok,Primal, YakiHonne all have them

Feels like Notifications are just Ads in disguise

its not easy. its like weaning off of a drug

would you say people respond to incentives?

That's the definition of incentives. If it didn't work, then incentives wouldn't be a word.

I can’t see the problem because I’m not an influencer with an audience. Not sure you realize what your actual position and status has turned into. I have no doubt that only-zaps works great for you and Jack.

😂 the onlyzaps fanboys replying with a reaction instead of just hitting the react button makes me giggle, that's not a short comment that's a thumbs up or a heart with more steps. I like to zap, I like to use custom reacts in amethyst, I appreciate any engagement 🤷‍♀️. There have been many missed choice reactions by the people using the onlyzaps feature. The best part of this whole thing is that you can use it however you want ☺️☺️.

I would maybe argue that responding that way requires a bit more proof of work than a single-button-press thumbs up. It's sort of comparable to just swiping left on every match in tinder. It has really little value.

I do not use it in that way, it feels like you are forcing followers and/or engagement in the cheapest way. If i really like something or see a chance for a witty reaction i will use it. If i found any actual value in it apart from agreement or a chuckle i'll throw in a zap.

In the end it does not matter. This is nostr! If you want to thumbs up the damn thing you hit that button, just like it's somebody else's choice to not look at them.

Yep

Likes are the equivalent of the head nod instead of outright saying "I like this" or "hey, that was cool bro".

oh hey, just noticed you haven't set up your lightning address. Did you need assistance with that?

Hell ya. High five. Flicked

you a penny to prove it!

Zaps show emotion

#haiku

I set it up on a different account I think. Didn’t want to use the same lightning address for two different accounts (if that is even possible).

I find it all very byzantine honestly. The tips aren’t worth the complexity for me. But thank you!

I guess your not creating anything of value, enjoy the noise.

I was going to zap this note but there’s no wallet set up. I won’t give it a like because that just feel gross and dirty.

Yeah I see what you mean. If nostr does take off I expect regular people would probably donate in a similar way to how they already donate to content/use buymeacoffee. Weekly/monthly, on releases for certain content from people they want to support.

I think it's just early days.

Social media is meant to be social lol. So if someone asks wg what kind of fish is this? And someone knows 'oh it's a good fish' there's no need to be sending $0.50 for the answer. You know just interacting with people might be fun lol. Bluesky/twitter havent succeeded because of tipping culture.

Likewise... If someone asks me to Photoshop something I might just do it for my own amusement/ 'the culture' / the lolz. I wouldn't expect a tip. I just wouldn't do it if it wasn't fun or something. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
