I am enemy of "easy". I think plug and play computer mode was a sort of planned thing to disconnect masses from learning and accessing the true power of computers. Most ended up using 5% of their machines potential. Self custody can't be like encrypting LUKS but it should be demanding in terms of work you have to put in. Otherwise like you said : you will give your stuff away.

The real killer would be to train AI and then use it to impersonate a loved one to seek the information.
If a call came from a member which was programmed and had the voice of a that person I would be more likely to engage. That said, I have worked with people in my close circle to set up test questions to verify identity.
