Signal would be perfect if it didn't require phone numbers or at least had an option to hide numbers from other users like in Telegram.

It would be extra perfect and I would donate to the maker if they didn't integrate and try to push their own shitcoin.

Please test #briar and tell me what you think!

Hit me with a DM or @ me if you want to try it out, (it requires both parties to add one another by design)

Been using Signal for a while, had no idea they had a shitcoin. TIL

Perfect forward secrecy for Nostr DMs would go a long way. With E2EE now in iCloud we could let iOS handle Damus backups. Relays would need to support cryptographic ratcheting though 🤔 #[0]

#[2] any thoughts on Session? https://getsession.org/

Session is part of a Dev group that does indeed push a shitcoin😒

Check out SimpleX https://simplex.chat

Thanks! Checking it out now, it looks great!

Are they still pushing their shitcoin?

They’ve got other priorities like mobile coin and moxie making bank - makes you question their commitment to privacy all round honestly

Threema is good, no shitcoin, no phone number, open source, clear business model (paid)

Can recommend the Sessions messaging app.

E2EE messaging with no requirement for phone numbers.

Signal has no reason to force disclosure of phone numbers now that SMS is not supported.

Didn’t they get hacked?

Don't know. Can imagine centralized service for an encrypted Network would be a target.

Me and my friends / family are using Threema. In my opinion it is actually the best solution. No phone number required, it’s open source, many privacy features. I recommend it 👌🏼
