MESSAGE ME ON AN E2EE DECENTRALIZED APP OR DON'T MESSAGE ME πŸ’¬

there are so many available, don't act like discord is the only thing you can install

✨ TOP TIER - these are protocol-based, use any app you want or make your own:

- Matrix

reccomended apps: SchildiChat Next, Cinny

- XMPP

reccomended apps: monocles

- Nostr DMs

note: for best security, make sure your client supports NIP-17

βœ… here are some other good options:

- Briar

- SimpleX

- Session

- TOX

note: this one may reveal your IP if not using tor

honourable mention: email with GPG

πŸ—‘οΈ TRASH TIER - DO NOT USE:

- WhatsApp: proprietary, KYC, encrypted but centralized

- Signal: KYC, encrypted but centralized

- telegram: unencrypted by default, centralized

- discord: unencrypted, centralized, and somehow still used by FOSS projects??

---

remember, you can install multiple apps for maximum compatibility with other humans, just don't let it be a centralized one!

let me know about any others you know :)

E2EE isn't real until I can encrypt and decrypt messages on an air gapped Nintendo 64

the ultimate privacy platform πŸ’ͺ

Unfortunately it was such a pain in the ass to get people to switch to signal from WhatsApp a few years ago that to get them to switch to something like simplex over Tor or not or session would be even more of a pain in the ass.

I have it tiered. Signal for most people I know and simplex or others for closer people who will tolerate my obsession with private messaging or share in it

WhatsApp and signal are the same in my eyes

my approach is more simple: don't talk to me on a centralized platform 😹

I agree. While I wouldn't put signal and WhatsApp on the same level because of meta, I also think centralized platforms are a problem.

i should consider adding my messaging links to my profile πŸ€”

thanks for the inspiration

Agree. I keep some accs for eventual need, but all bridged to matrix and my daily conversations, family, friends, and close ones are on matrix.

I say: You text me privately or you can’t text me. Simple.

Matrix was creatd by Amdocs. security ExPerts promote Matrix.

There are a few alternatives that are unencrypted, one of which I use is Nerimity. It's Free Software, and has features of Discord, Guilded, and Stoat (formerly Revolt).

It's under AGPL-3.0, and is self-hostable (though no help is provided there). I wondered if someone would be able to make it E2EE in the future.

Discord being used by FOSS projects is crazy πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. Matrix is a much better place.

so right, there is even spaces, which i've heard is the same thing as a discord server

Exactly. It even has the same look in Element.

I know some projects that at least bridge discord and matrix.

But for real. I don’t understand who thought using discord for FOSS was a fantastic idea.

GitHub is used for FOSS as well as for the central Nostr repository.

And so there are other options that are not private owned for sharing code.

that doesn't make it right πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Matrix - metadata harvester, Israeli's kid - Amdocs

I use Telegram, Nostr and Tox.

telegram 🀒

but Tox fam πŸ’œπŸ’ͺπŸ«‚

For me it depends on use case. Telegram has convenient UX and app for crypto transactions. Also it's used for daily communications. Tox is experimental thing.

Privacy is a relative function of signal to noise ratio. So non-popular messenger could also be less private than popular one. Depends on kind of signal, you receive and transmit.

Cwtch and Cabal, I like these two as well.. πŸ˜‰,

WhiteNoise and 0xChat when they're ready

And whatever Dark-Fi are doing 😁

looks very cool 🀯

I can't wait for the day they'll be ready, also honorable mention: #DeltaChat (I use daily to send stuff from desktop to phone -vice versa-)

i just started using that today, well (arcanechat)
