Second largest banking crisis in history, at least 30 banks have been placed under trading halts. Literally no one on Facebook has any idea any of this is happening.

Congratulations.

I still use Facebook to stay in touch with family that lives in other states and to keep up with IRL friends and local events.

However for the past several years, I find myself getting disgusted by the apathy and the general disconnect from anything that is going on in the world. It’s always me bringing the information to the table, and it’s always the grossly uninformed that like to argue about the information that they were not even aware of five minutes ago.

I do think it’s a bit valuable to see firsthand the detachment that the general population really has from these topics. It’s a barometer, it’s a cautionary tale that keeps me grounded in reality.

The reason that our governments get away with everything is because most people are not paying attention to anything outside their front door.

FEW INDEED.

Not sure I’d call this the second largest in history. 9,000 banks failed in the 1930s leading into Great Depression. You read that right: nine thousand.

Was there another that’s bigger than this one and smaller than that one?

2008?

I think 30 is just a first wave in a larger crisis that's about to spiral out of control. I reckon many banks would be operating in a similar fashion --- bought treasuries trusting FED projections while having ZERO reserves

Is this stat only in the US? That means there were more than 9,000 banking institutions in the US in 1930? That’s wild if that’s true but I find it hard to believe.

9,000 banks failed - $7 billion in depositors' assets.

Yeah just googled it 😳

I continue to see this referenced as the second largest. Might be missing something though. We all know the GD was the largest… what’s after that that’s bigger than this?

2008?

465 were closed as a result of the 08 financial crisis

Which would be about $125 billion today in adjusted dollars.

Since 2008

Ok thank you

Amazing how it always comes down to time preference, (mental) energy preservation, and the longtime consequences of it

They don’t care until the consequences part. And even then they still do nothing.

Yep. Learned helplessness is a thing

Few. Less than few.

I'm making my way back to Metaland after 5 yrs absence to see if i can pickup and move over any childhood friends over to nostr. It's a wasteland but i'm not giving up

I wrote a blog to persuade normies to take the purple pill. If they click the blue pill, they see The Social Dillema trailer. If they click the purple pill, they watch my nostr tutorial.

Ooh can’t wait to watch the tutorial! I need help!

* Second largest in 15 years

This is so true. I'm sure a very high % of people using #nostr have this same story due to us all being way more curious & willing to dig into alternative ideas.

Yep. Everbody I know that’s not in startup world or crypto I’ve spoken to has no idea about any of this. Don’t care.

They are not paying attention because, ironically, they consciously decided not to.

It will be a sad day when they pay the price for their choice to remain enmeshed with darkness.
