which Nostr client do you use the most, and why do prefer it over others?
Discussion
do you prefer*
Amethyst, because it only crashes 80% of the time I use it.
damn, jealousโฆ
every third time i click on the nav bar on Damus, it crashes for me.
For me too.
Really ? Iโm getting 5-6 crashes per week max on Damus 1.6 (7) TestFlight is really stable
Iris, I'm on Android and it's the best I've found, still looking...
Amethyst and Plebstr are probably the most popular ones.
Plebstr also has a PWA thatโs out now
Iris..becuase its the first I tried, gotta check out more though
I still jump between a number of clients as they all have their strengths and weaknesses. I am primarily a desktop user so I spend most of my time on Iris but switch between snort, primal and coracle as well. I love that Iris shows likes but like that Primal shows new follows so I can more easily follow people back.
Writing a relay helped me to learn that despite there being a spec for how to communicate, many clients and relays take different approaches to solve the same issues. Love seeing the trade offs in all of them and how quickly they are learning and adapting to how users actually use the product.
Plebstr, most user friendly and has a really good feed that shows posts and replies all in one. Much easier to #zap on it too
Using the PWA?
I'm on Android, so zaps weren't pulled from it. PWA needs to have a different zap mechanic because it's carried over from the mobile app, so I can't connect Alby for instance

have no experience with this myself
Im probably stupid, but im not getting where is the issue. On PWA or in native app
Plebstr. Predominantly because it was the first I tried.
Amethyst has some great features, but really terrible and cluttered UI.
Primal feels really smooth. I am looking forward to it being in stable
And I am eyeing Iris, but haven't gotten to trying it out yet.
However I would love to find one, that has working notifications, doesn't crash all to often, can actually work with relays and has a UI, that isn't trying to murder me.
Some wonderful insight here buddy.
Try out the Plebstr PWA, maybe it crashes less and also thereโs a way to set up your notifications also through the browser
I don't really see a PWA as much of a win over a native app. Also notifications and crashes are the less important ones. The main issues I have are the UI (on Amethyst) and lack of relay config options. (on Plebstr)
Thanks for the tip tho. Once I have thoroughly tested Iris I might give the PWA a spin too.
Every? ๐ค
I use nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955 95% and nostr:npub12vkcxr0luzwp8e673v29eqjhrr7p9vqq8asav85swaepclllj09sylpugg 5%. Primary reason for Damus is probably because it just works and was first app I usedโฆ๐คทโโ๏ธ
I use amethyst because it's convenient and I can send out messages on the go
Damus
I tried a lot of clients but I always come back to it.
The notifications feed is much better and clearer.
UI is clean, simple. Not too clogged up with unnecessary details
It has a nice IOS look
(Small things like text replacement works on Damus but not on all the other clients I tried)
#Amethyst for the win.
Works best on android, most features that I like, frequent and fast updates, cleanest/simplest UI.
It's only downside, in my view, is the challenges with searching and tagging npubs.
@Vitor just crushes.
I keep up with #primal for #android as well. It is super fast and polished feeling, but I'm waiting for it's feature to catch up.
I try out any new ones that I hear of, of course. I prefer android clients over web clients.
Damus on the iPhone, Iris or Primal on the web.
Amethyst.
Show me a client with more.
Damus. Tried others but Damus just works.
Love the fact wil and apple fight. David and Goliath. How can you not support this
I use it on web as well
When I get my pixel I will circle back to this to find out what the go too is
Seems like Damus is head and shoulders above other clients on iOS, Primal seems to be the most popular on web.
Android still doesnโt have a client so good, which people would pick over the others. (Amethyst maybe, but itโs way closer)

Clients I like ๐ค๐ซ:
Damus - Classic, No. 1, Sometimes crashes
Primal - Buttery smooth, Great notifications, iOS app behind on features, Needs relay support
Nostur - Underrated, Full-featured, Jumps a bit when scrolling
Snort - Nice design, Streaming platform, Recommendations, Loses where youโve scrolled to on iOS Safari when clicking back from a post
Donโt like as much (sorry ๐ฌ):
Coracle - Design
Current - Design, Function, Slow to load
Nos Social - Design, Slow to load, Quoted notes not showing
Plebstr - Not open source
really well put, thank you for the rundown ๐ซก๐
Hey nostr:npub1t3ggcd843pnwcu6p4tcsesd02t5jx2aelpvusypu5hk0925nhauqjjl5g4,
I prefer the UI and most features of Amethyst, but am constantly frustrated by it "getting busy" and ignoring all user inputs and freezing.
I've raised the issue with nostr:npub1gcxzte5zlkncx26j68ez60fzkvtkm9e0vrwdcvsjakxf9mu9qewqlfnj5z multiple times, but sadly this is low on the priority list.
Wishing some bored dev would notice, compare the Amethyst code with other clients that don't have this problem (e.g. Iris), and release a patch/fix.
When Amethyst locks up like this, I have to wait for Android to suggest closing the app, then I have to "force stop" Amethyst, and then wait a while to restart...๐ข
It's not low in the priority list. It's just very hard to load everything we need to run the app effectively. Especially without a local database, which we are building. It's not something a "patch" would solve, unfortunately. These types of refinements require a weeks of background algorithms work. :(
Been playing around with Primal, but Iris seems to load everything better on desktop. Always have relay issues on Primal
Amethyst for mobile. Never have any issues!
Thank you for the insight buddy ๐
Snort & Amethyst
I think Primal is ๐, but it is not available for Android and Web.๐ก
Primal is available for Android https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/apk/net.primal.android and Web https://primal.net/home
At the moment, it seems that you can only view and cannot upload pictures when posting pure texts.
