You can just dig a trench, on a hill, with a pick and a shovel.

While getting a full body workout, fresh air, and making something happen.

No paid membership required.

What do you think this trench is for? ⚡⚡⚡

A clue, it needs to be like 3 feet deeper still.

A couple of shallow graves 😉

That's an odd way to dig graves. I got no one to bury... Yet.

Just thought you had found a time saving method by doing it in a straight line.

I will try it out 'next time'. 😉

It's sure a good workout in that dry desert soil though 💪

Have a good one.

Land marking maybe?😊

Could be. Not this time.

Swale or septic drain

What is a swale?

If you’re not digging a swale, you should! Look up “greening the desert” project. Or look up permaculture. I’ve been wanting to do this for a while.

Will do. This will be running under our tiny house.

A Swale is a trench or depression dug on contour and it gives the water time to seep into the ground. It also creates a bit of a micro climate and depending on plants you can plant on uphill or downhill side. Very beneficial for high volume low frequency rain event locations.

Its not a septic drain. We have compost toilet setups.

I can't zap you less than 100 sats it seems?

That is a limitation of strike unfortunately.

Judging from the Depth Required I would have to say Irrigation maybe?

Good guess.

Whatever you're doing can you add a rat tunnel? Rats are a very discriminated minority when it comes to housing

No need. They always find a way.

Potatoes

Not yet.

water drain?

Good guess. Could be but not this trench.

Thats quite a foxhole

It is going to be much deeper and run to the center of the home.

Solar array power & posts?

Great guess. I do have some work to do on my solar setup moints but this isn't it yet.

Evaporation mitigating Irrigation

Not quite. It will be eventually much deeper and it runs to the center of our tiny house.

…poopoo?

We have a compost toilet for that. Good guess though.

I’m desperate to know because I need to learn so I can get out of this HOA.

Please do! What a scam.

Max scam.

Septic system?

Not planning on a septic system unless the country makes us.. Should be able to avoid it. We are using composting toilet setups.

You murdered the world's tallest man?

My favorite wrong answer so far.

That ditch is just for his Charles dickens.

New guess: heat pump!

It is an air tunnel.

I’m on to something.

Yes. It is for air flow. Just no heat pump involved.

Definitely not but thank you.

Giving it you for getting closest.. Its basically an air duct that will be buried in the ground to chill air for the summer and also serve to feed air for a wood stove in the winter. Free air conditioning in the desert.

Yessssssssss!!!!

If MacGyver lived out in the desert and had a couple dogs, you’d be him.

🦾🦾🦾

leach/

not sure what buttbut/

Some type of grounding?

No. I could Probably use a bit more grounding though.

Thank you. This is going to run under our tiny home.

Cooling loop system

A tunnel to chill air for our tiny home. And feed air to the wood stove in the winter. Sounds like that is what you are saying. I am not sure what it's called.

Its a heat exchanger.

The ground is cooler than the air in the hot summer.

Outside the desert you can use a water loop as well and/or run the loop through a water body.

Curious - what sort of trench depth are you digging, what size duct, for what sq ft / area home?

I am not sure yet. It's going to be a 20' circle essentially. I plan to go 3 feet or so. Deeper if needed. Though about using rocks to fill I the space of a tube if some sort. I am open to suggestions

I am curious how you went about choosing these dimensions

I found ceiling joists for free.

The depth I am guessing. I just make stuff up really and it tends to work out.

Where do the ceiling joists come in?

Epic project. Looking forward to hearing updates

This abandoned trailer. We also got an epic shower upgrade from it. Major quality of life improvement for free..

My man.

Are you using earth bags? Or tires? As your outer walls a la an earthship?

We are short on water for the time being. No plans to use water in it. Good idea though.

What is going on the trench? Pipe, rock, etc?

I am thinking a tube of some sort. It's for chiling air. Any suggestions?

That was a guess also for a fire (although in the center of the house lol) air hole.

Cool- I’m not the best one to ask but you’re onto something. Wind (air) on the hill.

Down a few feet the earth stays at a consistent temperature. We will be limited on power at this location. So I want to see what I can do to make it nicer inside without AC or a cooler.

Nice. For sure. You using solar for anything.

You could build a pool on that hill and use the trench for hydro mining 🤣

Water is a little scarce out here. Eventually will be collecting a lot of water. Lots of projects.

Amazing. I think you told me where once.

Off grid is admirable. I’m on citidiot grid 🤣 for now.

We have tons of solar on the property but this house is going to be very minimal. No large appliances or anything that uses a lot of power. I have 90 panels or so for miners and our other living space and kitchen area. This is really just a bedroom.

Sounds like good livin’

Not for everyone. It is my heaven on earth though. My work is my work.

Make it smooth on the inside. Pulling warm air into the ground and cooling it can cause condensation. You want it to all run one way to avoid pooling and mold. you could also run a string through the pipe. That way at whatever frequency you could pull a bleach soaked rag through it. Or a circular squeegee.

You’re going to plant some stuff on top of that? Your a legend desert Dave 🫡

water line. I'll be doing this soon but for now I am pounding posts. I want to make an energy vault under my house.

Nice. What is an energy vault?
