What are the best options to have a personal relay, other than getting one from https://relay.tools?
Ideally it would be nice to have a relay with a backup/archivial focus.

Citrine 🤔
I'm testing it right now.
The problem is that it is local only, so it misses all the event when I use non mobile clients.
I'm trying to make it available outside with some dynamic dns wizardry.
Umbrel has this.
I would prefer a simpler solution. I see Umbrel uses nostr-rs-relay, probably is suitable for that job, I will take a look.
I think Nostr needs more hosting providers like this one, just like Fediverse has a lot of providers that offer great services. Socializing is something everyone needs, but technology is not a prerequisite for socializing. The client side is cloning Twitter by making socializing as easy as Twitter, but what about the server (relay) side? There should be more "Just take my money" options than tutorials.
I agree, we need consumer server services, they should become a commodity. Families, small groups and associations would benefit greatly.
Talking about sylonet: no info about the creators, few details about the services, no prices exposed, regitration only via email... and "Follow us on X"? Sorry, I'll pass :)
I haven't been able to find much information on sylonet either, so I'll disclose my sylonet explore (In exchange for the provision of email🙂) log: their Nostr relay service actually uses nostr-rs-relay as the base software, and starts at $5. I got a email from them last week, with a form, and it looks like they've got plans to improve the Nostr portion of their service.
Thank you for the additional information
I remembered PikaPods:
- https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31284512
I went and searched for a poll on them, and found that someone had already commented!

So I added some common relay software there.
TOS: 404 page.
Privacy policy: 404 page.
Mentions "Stripe" but doesn't mention prices.
What exactly do providers have to do to be "like this one"?
It actually worked fine when I found him a few months ago, but it does so far 🤷♂️. I'm sure there are others who can do a better job, but at the moment there is nothing but relay.tools.
Citrine on Android.
It's a relay that runs on your phone.
Interesting, who is behind this service?
Nostrmo
#Nosflare could run practically free as a personal relay, if you don't mind using Cloudflare
