The first time I heard about bitcoin was the summer of 2011 and I didn’t look into it because I arrogantly presumed it was a central server that would be shut down by the government.

Big oof.

Likes are for pussies

I first heard about it in 2014 when an engineer on my team said he was going to start mining and my boss said with a smirk, “Hasn’t it all been mined already?” And I never thought about BTC again until 2021 🤦🏻‍♂️

Apparently “nerd money” until March 2021 🤦🏽‍♂️

The first time I heard about bitcoin i was looking for cool distributed computing projects but decided to do folding@home instead

Imagine if you bought it at that date....

All that ever would of been important is holding.

That and self custody which was SO much harder to do then

ya man 😅

I almost bought some at $80. Thing is back then it was still very new, you were less likely to think it would hit thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars so you would be more likey to sell it at a profit rather than hold it for years. I didn't end up buying unti it was $4k.

That's some og base price right there

Read the white paper couple months after it was posted. Thought that sounds cool, maybe I should mine some. Went out to party and came back to it in 2018. Good party though if I remember rightly

Thete's a lot of people who still think like that. Maybe not that the govt will shut it down necessarily but that bitcoin will fail (or is a scam/bubble etc). At $100k they still think that way, there's no reason they won't change their arrogant beliefs at $1 million, they might even double down.

I was just a non tech savvy idiot too distracted by drugs and girls. Fucked that one up big time.

The first time I mined bitcoin was when ESEA hid a miner in their Counter Strike client and I still did not seriously look into it. 🤦‍♂️

Same. I still have a chat msg to a friend 😂 in 2011

"hey bitcoin crashed to $1.... what do you think now?"

saved it too.

My first touchpoint was a friend back around 2010, he was a network engineer at a server farm in San Jose, he told me people at his work were mining it on their laptops. I thought it sounded like a goofy computer nerd thing. He has a fancy google job now but im pretty sure he never actually bought any. My 2nd touchpoint was a different friend in 2013, dude fancied himself a kind of Hunter S Thompson drug collector. He was a Silk Road guy. Years later he actually got raided by the DEA. He never kept any of the bitcoin he used to buy drugs. Crazy

a lotta crazy shit in the bay at that time 😂

Ignored it 2013 when a friend told me about the Silk Road. Ignored it in 2017 during the bull run. T’was only in 2021 that I decided to take control of my financial life and started down the rabbit hole. The irony is that during all those years I was really good at hodling shitty high risk stocks and saving my money (which only got devalued). All good now.

I heard about it in 2016 and arrogantly didn't buy what looked like the top.

I also thought it didn't make sense to buy a currency with the intended goal of selling it to get more of the currency that I use, I missed the point entirely.

I want to grab my younger self and slap the shit out of him. 🤦

I see your oof is as big as mine

I don’t know the year I first heard about it but I watched a documentary and they were showing how drug dealers and users were using it to transact. I thought “oh that’s interesting”. It never even crossed my mind to buy some.

Eventually after listening to FreeTalkLive for a year or two, in 2019 I was convinced I needed to check it out. I was so confused about exchanges, DeFi, Hardware wallets, Software wallets, etc, that I never pulled the trigger. I finally bought in 2021 and missed the massive bull run. But I didn’t miss the crash!

Everybody gets bitcoin at the price they deserve

That may have been a mistake.

When was the first time you heard about Israel occupying your govt, media, and financial system?

The fiat mindset teaches us to assume that all power must be centralized, that's the real trap. Glad you saw through it eventually.
