It seems that pod 2.0 is fading away a bit.

Not sticky enough?

How can we make it mores seamlessly integrated with the legacy clients?

I like Fountain App. Sats, value for value, notes, links.

I like it too, but seems to have hit a wall

#Fountain App for a few weeks now is working like shit on my android phone. It mixes up my queue list and during playback if I switch to another app and back it just stops and jumps back to that position where I started the playback. It's really annoying and they can't resolve it. I use more now my legacy software and Fountain not anymore.

how do you measure this?

from what I know TX count is going up (but still too slow) and the amount of players is increasing.

Talking to other hosts. Legacy engagement going up (downloads, comments, feedback, etc...) boostagrams and streaming Sats going down. (Many shows)

interesting.

How is your feeling there? Is that model something to push and one that will win?

The zap action here on nostr makes me very positive actually. We have to get the UX and the incentives right maybe?

A lot can be learned there from nostr.

Many things. Ppl have been deeply conditioned to not pay for content. But there is a lot of hope that new ppl will.

I think the UX still way behind. We need major clients to adopt the model or the new clients to be 10x better.

We need to take advantage and hack our way into more network effect since we are more open to things like Nostr.

Content creators need more one-button means of promoting their stuff, their clips, etc...

I know Adam disagrees, but, in a way, podcasting 2.0 is trying to create its own network effects from scratch, which is a tall order for anything, let alone for the pitch “pay for something you can get for free” which will be a small niche for quite a while.

Podcasting 2.0 needs nostr or something like it that will help it with adoption/network effects

Hell, I built a shitty podcasting player using nostr (nostr:nostr:npub1zapstrdhq7rxrw224apgvs5ajlh9y473f2rdd0a9fjcys2u8d7cqzxqhp9 ) and some people still use it because of it’s interoperability and social clients like amethyst and snort become podcasting apps too just from virtue of being nostr clients 🤷‍♂️

I have tried it. Cool feature, but paying by the minute makes me feel stupid when there is the same (add sponsored) content in my favorite podcast app and everywhere else for free...

I know value4value - I'm just honest. 🫣

"If you’re not paying for the product you are the product"

True. But if I pay I still get to listen to the ad reads etc. and I'm still the product.

I might consider to pay v4v podcasts is that eliminates the sponsor reads...

I try to listen to sponsor free podcasts just for that reason and/or they have their own sponsored ads for other v4v services, content etc…

It's good to be honest

U mean value 4 value and streaming sats?

Content creators could have a special like 10-15 mins at the end for just the 2.0 apps?

Or maybe some better perks for supporting with 2.0 apps, like giveaways or something?

Not all normies want to jump on a new podcasting app and see nothing but bitcoin stuff if that not their thing. I showed fountain to a buddy of mine and he was like where the none bitcoin stuff. He was able to find his normal hardstyle podcasts he likes. Maybe it just needs a like more front end work to have a normie section at the top before it goes full bitcoin, ya know what I mean chicken wing?

Applies to NOSTR clients as well ZBD, perfect example.

Yup yup

Fountain search feature is awful as well. I love fountain, use it almost exclusively, but it is really difficult to find shows on there even when you type the exact name of the show. Eventually found a couple of the sports pods that I occasionally listen to but it was a hassle and most people won’t bother with hassle.

I totally agree searching is rough and needs to be easier

I have been reaching out to content creators that I follow to try and get them to try Nostr, Zion, fountain etc. a couple did seem somewhat interested. Just keep planting the seed. People need to hear about shit a bunch of times before it clicks.

I tried to get my buddy who’s been making music for a long time now, he’s been live streaming shows for a few years, he’s been banned on YouTube 3 times, same on twitter.

It’s ruff to see him on the verge of giving up. Hopefully I can get him to at least try out one of the nostr live streaming services. Tried showing him wavlake and he instantly told me they wouldn’t accept him? Idk I’ll keep shilling.

Keep at it

A link to a PWA in the show notes that seamlessly picks up from where you left off on the legacy app. A 1-2 click process. Minimal friction.

I would imagine a scenario where reaching out to more distributors, like Transistor, Podbean, Buzzsprout etc build it into there “stack”

Still bummed that when I go to a fountain link on my phone, like from Damus, and it opens in the browser, and a banner shows up at the bottom saying “open in app” and I click it, it open Fountain on my phone IN A GENERIC PAGE, instead of opening the page for the podcast I’m trying to listen to (and that I came from)

Also the search in fountain just doesn’t seem to work half the time.

I want to love fountain but these issues have frustrated me. I even set up to stream sats to podcasts too

I’ve always thought the issue was the fact that you don’t directly gain anything from donating. I think this is the reason shout-outs are a more popular option (Haven’t actually looked at the stats.)

I’ve been thinking about this idea of giving people achievements for donating x sats a minute while listening to a new episode within a week of the release.

you could then expand this x podcasts in a row, or y hours of listening (while streaming sats).

Basically, just gamifying listening and paying for podcasts. What makes this idea interesting to me is selling merch based on these achievements, so if you listened to > x% of all episodes of a podcast released in 2023, you can buy a unique t-shirt or whatever for that year, and so on.

I know we are a small show and based off the #Plebchain crowd but here is our analytics for listener traffic by device / platform / app

Agreed- I most typically used fountain but the search/saved experience was bad.

Nostr can stream- it should be able to pod. Integrate it here. Small subcultures are great but having to check a dozen different niche apps is too much friction.

The Hive mess gave it a bad rep from the start.

I tried Fountain a couple times and kept returning to AntennaPod. Things just didn't work right or worked in a way I didn't like. Nothing against pod 2.0 specifically

Maybe Podcasting 2.0 needs to move to Nostr so zaps and comments are public

That could help

It definitely would; make boostagrams discoverable again

nostr:npub1unmftuzmkpdjxyj4en8r63cm34uuvjn9hnxqz3nz6fls7l5jzzfqtvd0j2 let's make this happen.

“You’ll be a nostr client and you’ll be happy”

Working on it!
