Fuck fiat
Cash is king 👍
Favorite part about Argentina's money system is that they refuse to give you coins as change, they give you little pieces candy instead. I always thought about trying to reverse it and pay an entire bill with a big bag of candy
Wow. I’m looking forward to your next video about this.
How often do fiat workers renegociate their pay? Asking for a... uh well, me
At the beginning of the year, worker unions renegotiate the salary, if inflation for this year is estimated in 100%, they will try to get a salary raise of that increment distributed in the year, maybe 15% in march, 20% in may, 25% july and so.
Sounds about like the Indonesia Rupiah, although they do have much larger denominations. Their largest denomination, 100,000 idr is equivalent to $6.66 USD. They also observe the practice of returning small change, less than 500 Rupiah, in pieces of candy.
I recently read that Indonesia is in the process of creating a national crypto currency exchange. Bappebti plans to roll out the exchange sometime this month. Some reports say that this will be the ONLY exchange permitted to operate in Indonesia which, I'm sure, would be much more inefficient than exchanges that currently operate in the country. I'm hoping this is just a poor translation because I've been here for the past couple months orange-pilling my wife's family and community, and they would much prefer to use the new lightning transfers option to Binance since many of the transactions would be smaller than on-chain network fees. Perhaps your team could reach out to Ridwan Kamil or Samson Mow to discuss the future of Bitcoin in Indonesia?

Production of money should be expensive as the money face value. 😉

Do they not accept credit cards?
Of course you can use credit cards, but the credit card here take dollar value to the official value, and that’s half the value of the dollar in the “black market” or the street. So instead of $152 for this dinner you pay around $300. That’s why you sell dollars in the black market to have cash.
Crazy. I wonder why the official exchange rate “needs” to be different. Are you able to pay with BTC in a black market sort of way?
I’m not an expert, but it’s a way to try to control the dollar value, if you go to the bank, you can buy just $200 to the official value in theory, but there’s a lot of restrictions, so not everybody can buy those $200, by example, if you receive any kind of help from the government you can’t buy that dollar. And, if you can buy that $200, you have to add 65% of taxes, so it’s not that value anyway. And fixed deposits gives you around 154% APY in pesos, so that’s another government measure to try to avoid you to buy dollars. And it’s more complex than this 😢
Argentine Peso is fucked
That's true. In Argentina, it's common to pay for dinner with a pile of notes. This is because the Argentine peso is a very weak currency, and it's often difficult to get change for large bills.
For example, a meal at a mid-range restaurant might cost around 1,000 pesos. This is about $10 USD. If you try to pay with a 1,000 peso bill, the waiter might not have change for you. So, you'll need to bring a pile of smaller bills to make up the difference.
This can be a bit of a hassle, but it's just the way things are done in Argentina. If you're planning on visiting the country, be sure to bring some small bills with you. You'll be glad you did!
Here are some tips for paying for dinner in Argentina:
Bring a pile of small bills with you.
If you don't have change, ask the waiter if they can break a large bill for you.
If you're paying with a credit card, be prepared to pay a surcharge.
Tipping is not expected in Argentina, but it is appreciated.
10$usd is closer to 5000 pesos and literally no one has trouble making change for the largest bill 1000 pesos which is 2usd (they’ve released a 2000 peso bill but it’s new and barely circulating. Some of the things you are saying were certainly valid 15 years ago with 100 peso notes which were worth over 30usd but not anymore.
You making a follow the money episode down there?!
He’s filming a documentary on inflation.
If inflation is constantly running high, do wages just keep going up? Not keeping up with inflation but they must have to keep going up otherwise there would be carnage?
Imagine feding all the ATMs with that worthless paper…
Inflation hurts us a lot. Its impossible to progress
