RELAY OPERATORS AND CLIENT MAINTAINERS WILL LIKELY EMPLOY DIFFERENT METHODS SINCE THIS IS AN OPEN PROTOCOL.

I don't think that centralized platforms even do the spam prevention well. Mute here works well and I can only assume the report function gets the spam content/abusers removed from relays. So far it's working fine for me (& definitely not worse than any of the mainstream platforms) 🙌

We have the facility to apply minuscule costs to every action. We will tire the spammers out very quickly.
Paying will be opt in of course, but what you get for it is an experience that filters out the zero value players.

Someone make a client that requires 10k sat zap to a specific npub to register, no KYC at all. Once that user has been on the client for 365 days with no reports or wild behavior, but has a minimum post threshold, they are automatically zapped back the 10k sats. Forced hodl and decently verified non spam. I will send sats to whoever wants to build this client.

It wasn’t panic. It was calling out scammers and grifters for what they were, to protect our peers. Side benefit, reducing bloat and a social attack vector on Bitcoin. Yes we’re still vulnerable to this and yes you and others are sleeping at the wheel. This vector never ending is not an excuse for appeasement. And no, the spam hasn’t stopped because the fees are low. You just don’t notice them as much because you’re not looking.
