Should Amethyst ship a Pokey service inside of it so that we can kill the last bit of centralized server we use (our Push notification server)?

So there is hope again! 👀

I don't know, but I haven't gotten push notifications for years from most apps because I use lineageOS with no google services

Have you tried pokey? It works really well

Yes please. I don't know why but notifications have never worked for me.

Are you on the Google play or fdroid version?

Fdroid version, used to have nifty installed and set up but I don't remember it working at all. Ended up uninstalling.

Also, you should try Pokey. It works quite well. The only issue is that Android keeps killing it from the background.

what are the cons of this?

1% more battery consumption

Less people downloading Pokey (more centralizing)

If this requires another app other than ntfy to push notifications, then now. Pokey destroys batteries, or at least it did when I tried it.

Weird. I use it everyday. Pokey uses less than 1% daily on my phone.

Hmmm... Maybe I'll try it again.

Sure, whatever. Just give me option to disable it. I hate social network notifications.

killing a centralized service sounds best. notifications need to work well too. idk about the tradeoffs if any

Amethyst could educate the user about the microapps that complement and work well with it:

- pokey

- amber

- citrine

- samiz

Lots of users don't know about them.

Some 'UX magic' could tell about them, check if they are installed and help the user to install them if they aren't.

I know it's easier to say it than to design it, but I think this feature iwould be very useful.

I've to check out samiz and pokey, thx 4 the hint!

No.

Amerhyst with batteey restriction + Pokey works fine.

Is it just me or has Amethyst not had an update in months?

Pokey was killing my battery hard the last time I used it (few months ago). FDroid version of Amethyst doesn't have notifications, so I do them through OXchat, but I can't read them there, so I have to go to Amethyst to see the message. Early days of Nostr are... interesting sometimes.

Which distributor do you use for ntfy?

Oh sorry, it was Pokey that was draining battery... I'll install nfty again. I stopped getting notifications with it so I stopped using it.

I'm using Obtainium (primary) and zapstore now for as many apps as I can.
