Gm,
Your fingerprints aren't protected by privacy laws
Therefore don't use biometrics to unlock your phone, as you can be compelled to produce a fingerprint, unlike a pin/pass

Changed all that out last year.
In Germany it used to be law that the police cannot take your prints unless you're being charged with a crime. Now you have to give your prints voluntarily when applying for a new ID card. We're being treated like criminals without committing crimes.
That's so cringe π¬ fuck Germany
it is mandatory to have fingerprints in your passport when traveling to the us.
But you didn't have to apply for a passport.
The ID, on the other hand, is mandatory
I travel to USA without fingerprints?? (From Canada)
It's a german thing β¦. since 2007
US was just an example.
it is necessary in all countries that require a passport
I saw this when I arrived last year and registered my residential address. I identified myself with my passport and the guy at the city hall was like "oh Sir, you should get a new ID card." I then saw the scanner, asked about it, he told me about how the new IDs required the scan and I kindly declined. My passport is still valid for 6 years and I have no plans to stay here that long.
here's another cringe. Tills in any business are now connected to the IRS. Even if you're the owners you're not allowed to handle your till without a sale or unless you're doing your end-of-day.
Opening the till without a corresponding sale is an offence (to give someone change for example).
also anyone don't want criminals to CHOP-OFF their finger right ? they will not hesitate to that as you seen in many movies
Fingerprints are for me like public keys, they aren't a secret.
is this real? i did not know this.
In the US, it depends on which state you're in. At least that's how it was last time I checked
I'm not naive to the fact that they can repeal those protections or find another way to collect fingerprints, though
Good to know TYFYS
There is a setting in iPhones that helps with this.
Biometrics for unlocking your phone can be turned off and only used for things like unlocking or downloading apps.
I use my phone as if it's already fully pwned.
