Anyone having experience with water fasting and exercising? #asknostr
Discussion
Yes, but not at the same time, personally.
I mean, it depends what counts as exercising I guess.
A little. What do you want to know?
How would you incorporate working out like weight lifting or is that a no go?
Yes and yes. These were the results:

Yup I’ve done it. Water fasting + workouts.
Go easy especially on day 2-3. Walking, stretching, light stuff =
perfect.
Mental clarity goes up. Ego goes down. It’s a trip.
Happy to share more if you’re diving in. You got this.🧡🫂💜
It's a trip ;) Yes! I have done once 72 hours but with zero exercise. So I'm just very curious about working out during that time, especially as a woman.
Im not aware of your current physical condition but i‘d rather start slow with walking&stretching and take it from there.
I had a chapter in my life where I served in the KSK as an elite soldier trained to push both physical and mental limits under extreme conditions like sleep deprivation, hunger, and lack of water.
All I can say is there’s far more power and energy sleeping inside your body and mind than you might be aware of.
You might just become unstoppable when discovering your fire 🔥
Heh, I've done BJJ 84 hours in. Salt and water.
I don't do more than 36 hours anymore. I've written before about why and can go find it if you are interested.
Short version is, thyroid levels start to shift suddenly after a while. Unlike the other changes these look like starvation and increase the risk of bounce back weight gain and other long term metabolism issues.
Want more benefits? Refeed and do another 36.
My main reason would be for cleansing the body. Not about loosing weight, so the 36 hours rule is new to me. Where have you written about it before?
Here on nostr.
Basically, once you get cold your metabolism has ground to a halt. You aren't really burning much energy at all so catabolic cleanup processes have also slowed.
There is also risks to that slowed state, you need to turn your metabolism back on and get it back up to speed. Tons of time in that slowed metabolism zone causes people to get stuck there. That is the root of snapback weight gain with bonus weight after a diet.
Ah okay that makes a lot of sense. Yes, the last time I did 72 hours I didn’t exercise at all and once I broke the fast I ate actually more 🫣
Eating more after is normal and doesn't cause any harm as long as you are still burning at a normal rate. Basically for a stable weight you need to eat and burn the same calories over the week. That means bigger meals when eating if there was a fast.
I did 84 many times and weight loss always basically stopped after 48 hours. I felt good but competitive sports made it very clear I was very sluggish. My goal was weight loss and I did lose weight but it came right back as soon as I stopped regularly fasting.
36 gives me a buffer to stay safely away from that slowdown. It also happens to be dinner to breakfast which feels convenient.
I'm now targeting the autophagy and metabolism benefits of fasting, my weight can be whatever it naturally ends up at. More frequent 36s are far less disruptive.
I always add salt but otherwise yes.
Done it for a week and also for 72 hours. I did no heavy workouts though. I do intermittent fasting since over 2 years (not super strikt, if I feel like I want breakfast and dinner, I do it, maybe once a week). My body had no problem adjusting to full fasting. Otherwise I would take it very slowly, since the feeling of hunger and focus on food in your thoughts might be very distracting. Oh, and I continued taking electrolytes during fasting.
I’ve done it. It helps to have the body already fat-adapted with prior fasts or intermittent fasts, so that it’s in a good metabolic state to exercise while fasting.
When people first start fasting/keto or otherwise adapting the body to burn fat over sugar, it can go through a sickly period until it’s adapted.
I also pay attention to electrolytes.
Amazing, thank you for the advice. Prior intermediate fasting is a good way to start to get the body used to it!
exercise + no water = dehydration..??
It's fine especially if you allow yourself some chicken broth or something for electrolytes
Have you done some weights as well?
Yes. I find it depends on the time of the month as well. In general, I have extra padding and know my body is not starving and have felt fine with light cardio and weight lifting in a fasted state. In practice I find I cannot fast the week before my period and certainly cannot workout fasted then because I feel too weak and exhausted.
Just listen to your body. If you're getting weak / dizzy try electrolytes like broth, if it doesn't help maybe you need to just rest or get some protein. It'll be different for everyone.
