A lot of people don't like extremists and large echo chambers. We're different, but we're similar in that regard.
We're also more polite.

Listen man, Bluesky freakshows are free to spin up an npub and provide counter arguments alot fucking easier than if somebody on Nostr went over to Bluesky to do similar, that's the difference.

The only thing you’d run into on Bluesky is getting blocked by idiots, unless your goal is to be as aggressively offensive as possible. In that case you might get banned from the Bluesky PDS, but are welcome to spin up your own and rejoin the network, because that’s how it works.

Nostr is so much less toxic than FB Instagram Twitter YouTube tiktok etc.
Xioahungshu is the only other social media I can think of where people are generally polite and respectful like they are on nostr.
Mostly, yeah.
Most people have never heard of nostr, but those who have already think of it as a bitcoiner social network, with whatever stigma that comes with.
When we actually manage to get new users, they realize pretty quickly that Bitcoin (or nostr) content makes up a majority of what actually gets engagement.
I think this is more of a filter than a hurdle.
This is what keeps Nostr focused on the right things.
I think the filter might need replacing.
1. 10k+ daily active users is an achievement for a protocol that is basically just a Twitter clone with a decentralized tinge to it.
We can't even post gifs straight from the keyboard yet.
2. This is only 6months of data which can be noisy.
3. Daily actives are the noisiest of data here; it's weekly actives that make more sense to look at it & that is >40k trusted pub keys.
4. If you care about decentralized social media that chances that youre also interested in Bitcoin is super high.
5. People don't care about decentralization & censorship resistance for the most part; for now.
6. Bitcoiners will grow in number, Nostr will grow in numbers - neither pattern has been or will be linear.
There are a lot of trump tards on here and other bootlickers who are trying to conflate Bitcoin with Trump etc.
Apart from those people I reckon the culture on nostr is a lot healthier than any other social media

I would say every social setting will have its pros and cons. One recent con of Nostr I experienced - homophobic hate speech.
… some other general cons - people talking about tech/finance/politics sounding like they have superiority complexes and just loving to use labels on people. While using all the good labels for themselves and their followers of course!

hate speech is basically abusive (violent) language, but not within an interpersonal relationship with one person. It’s directed to a group of people based on what you perceive their group identity to be.
It’s related to verbal abuse. Verbal abuse would be someone just targeting one individual though.
