Hmm I feel like this this could be a Google toggled option just like 'Show Replies'.
I follow a few accounts which are good at highlighting interesting and not trending stuff, interesting replies, smaller accounts and what's not. š¤
āWe are the algorithmā¦except on coracleā š
š
Lol it is good for me to aware of this though as we like to simply repost other peopleās stories/notes from Nostr Report account sometimes instead of creating an original note about it. But sounds like Coracle users wonāt see those.
We will not. Quote it instead š.
This is all Jack's fault lol š”š”š”
Hodlbod totally sick of seeing his notes, now we can't play š”
I do totally get it tho lolol. But solvable with toggle lol
Oh one of the Jacks posted something. Best switch to no reposts.
Lmao. Exactly!
Lol. Nostur has a cool feature toggle where if enabled it will detect if a note has already appeared in your timeline and then not show you any more reposts of it. I havenāt tested to see how accurate it is, but interesting concept.
That is v clever š

'Mark as read' āŖš¢
'auto mark as read any post by someone called Jack' āŖš¢
Ooh great way to explain it. nostr:npub1n0sturny6w9zn2wwexju3m6asu7zh7jnv2jt2kx6tlmfhs7thq0qnflahe š
Iām not sure about that because I tried to understand it and I donāt get it.
> āMark as read' āŖš¢
Is this a toggle on a single post? or where? mark what as read?
> 'auto mark as read any post by someone called Jack' āŖš¢
This is the same as āmute/block Jackā ? or just reposts?
I understood it as only related to reposts. I could see it helpful to have 2 settings:
- āDonāt see reposts of this noteā which would affect only a single note. This would be useful when a single popular post shows up in your feed too much.
- āDonāt reposts of this userās notesā which would affect all reposts of notes from that particular user. This would be useful when you follow a particularly popular account that always gets reposted by everyone.
Not sure if that is what the others in the thread meant by it though.
Yes, I think that is what I understood it to be as too.
Basically something that would stop a personās feed from getting bogged down by reposts of a single popular note.
Ah I see, makes sense now.
Ideally these manual actions shouldnāt be necessary as the Hide seen posts toggle makes sure you see a post only once, repost or not. But I added the ā(beta)ā because it currently forgets across app restarts and for some reason it seems to restart more often than it should.
Itās a very inventive setting. I havenāt seen it in any other client, surprisingly.
why not just have reposts boost the single existing note card, instead of creating a duplicate of it in your feed
no need for toggle then
I think that would still result in the user seeing the same note over and over. I believe thatās what it is trying to limit, or at least give users the option to limit
yes, you may still see it more in the top of your feed (which is the point of reposts, to increase it's visibility)
and at the same your feed has less duplicates of the same notes
at the same time*
pardon my brainfarts
Correct. Except not everyone cares that you repost something, even if thatās the point of them.
if so, then why couldn't you have a checkbox that says
"don't display reposts"
Because you may want to see it once, just not dozens of times
nostr:note1xmeyqn6mp4eqr8g0wdsdqtnlqf2prvu8z647vl49gy3z8mwmku0sdvt726
how do you detect i actually read it, not just scrolled past it slowly
Maybe you click on something?
yeah, that'd be nice š¤
although i sometimes i want to come back to it and screenshot it, reply to it or forward it to somebody
so i am not sure if it would make that part more difficult, let's say in occasions that i can't remember the author, but i could remember where it was in my feed
Then you turn the setting off until you figure out how to read whatās in your screen while you scroll. Lol tf kind of a question is that?
i don't think a timer as default is a good idea, mby custom opt-in option
a tick to mark as read would be nice
Yeah, I suggested a Mark as Read. So you don't see it again (unless maybe with some sort of timer, cos you may want to resurface something interesting from like a year ago).
Still think having the whole thing on a toggle makes sense. You probably only really need to switch it on when Jack posts.
We could all mute jack maybe ? Jk jk
Unless...
Jk jk
mark as read has been my suggestion ever since onlyzaps came to be too, so i agree with that
currently i only use likes to filter through at first glance my Mentions tab in Notification, what i've already read and gone through
like is currently a mark as read + reaction for me
Tbh I don't even have a problem with reposted notes. This has only emerged out of the realisation that coracle doesn't show them at all. And I projected on to nostr:npub1jlrs53pkdfjnts29kveljul2sm0actt6n8dxrrzqcersttvcuv3qdjynqn that he must be annoyed about reposts lol.
I could actually live with them. Which is why I suggested a toggle Show Reposted, cos I would just have it on all the time lol.
Some of my favourite follows are highlighting lesser seen interesting stuff via reposts.
reposts were initially under the Replies tab on Damus which i personally enjoyed more, than the way it currently is on the main Posts tab
i still appreciate reposts, but having them equal to posts on the main tab dilutes the signal of the actual new posts
I would probably disagree slightly. Someone bringing a note to people's attention, especially from users who have less visibility, like they're new or for whatever reason really... Can be of equal value and valuable for other reasons too (finding interesting users). Not all reposts will be The Trending Thing.
yeah, good point
context matters a lot š¤
In the case of Nostur the first repost that puts it in front of you should be the only one you need. After that, the next 47 reposts by your contacts donāt need to appear at the top of your feed again and again.
* typos
*A good toggled option.
I agree, reposts can be very useful when used well, ie not reposting Jacks notes š, and I think thatās where most clients will end up. With a toggle.
