Whatching non-technical people trying to use WhatsApp's features on iOS makes me believe Nostr apps are actually good.

No wonder WhatsApp didn't grow in the US. The iOS UX is terrible.

Pero en Android es genial 💫

It's quite bad on Android too.

But I havent seem people fumbling around on Android. On iOS, it's always an adventure to find the button you are trying to press.

Which messenger apps are popular in USA?

Email :)

Haha, I don't believe.

Faz sentido.

I’m not sure if it’s due to the poor UX of WhatsApp. iPhone are ubiquitous in North America. So iMessage is everywhere. Gotta have them blue bubbles.

WhatsApp is popular, but usually with the android crowd or people with a lot of family in Europe.

I think now that Apple supports RCS it’s another nail in the coffin for WhatsApp in NA. I’d be curious to see stats in a year.

SMS

Haha

Thinking the same thing about Slack, today. Couldn't manage to switch users.

Jira PWA is absolute garbage and they wanted $70/month, for us to not switch to something self-hosted. 😅

all people I know have lost all their whatsapp chats when changed their phone, despite the app do automatic backups everyday at 2:00 AM, making the app inutilizable for tens and tens of minutes. Worst UX ever seen in that regard.

Yep. Try to migrate Apple accounts to see what happens. 😂

WhatsApp is growing like crazy in the US right now.

Fucking immigrants!!!

15 years behind the rest of the world.

I remember arriving in the US in 2005 and seeing drive thru banks which would take cheques by pneumatic tubes - meanwhile the rest of the world was using chip&pin and hardware fobs for 2FA.

That is a thing known to banking that once set it's not evolving much. When you compare let's say US banking with German and Polish and African solutions then it really shows

In the US it is. The rest of the world continued developing banking, America kept their antiquated systems longer than anywhere else

Yeah apparently Germany is also a bit backward. It's hard to pay with the card in many places etc. The US was on the forefront and now pays the price of it

And in the US it's not the cool kind of sticking with the past, like in Japan. It's the uncool kind.

I just never used WhatsApp after meta bought it

This sounds like only Americans need UX, or are too stupid to handle bad UX lol

The reason wp didnt take in the US is because text messages were free. In most of the rest of the world, phone carriers were greedier and charged for it, so whatsapp came to fill that void.

It’s not the UX it’s the network.

A lot of people and family have iPhone, group chat and photo albums sharing becomes a pain when you don’t have an iPhone.

Then parents chat group are a horrible experience if you don’t have an iPhone.

We have tried to convince to move people to what’s app group for parents chat but it’s impossible to move people over…

Yep, I hear you. They do everything they can to keep you in the ecosystem.
