we put a sunshade up on the windshield and use the built in window shades. Then we cover the car seat itself in a reflective seat cover. seems to be okay but I wanna know what else people are doing.

Ice packs under the seat cover
like you put them on for a bit before you put the kid in?
That and we have the squishy ones that can fit under their thighs

I guess you keep the ice packs in a cooler while you're out and about?
I have a fridge/freezer I keep in my truck. Stocked with food for kids/snacks/cold drinks when we are on longer drivers. Takes about twenty minutes to cool down.
It runs off a second battery.
ooo yeah, those are awesome! we have one of those too but we don't carry it around in the car regularly. might consider doing this for the summer though ๐ค
It rarely gets hot enough here to do the ice pack thing, but when it does it cools them down pretty quickly quick.
I'm guessing it'll hit triple digits regularly this summer. We have loads of ice packs already. I might sew something up to replicate the car seat coolers that I'm seeing online and slot the ice packs in.
Honestly nothing. We live in the hot hot lands.
Black car, black carseat, tinted windows, no windshield thing, no window covers.. ac did/does a fine enough job.
Fill / partly cover it with a white blanket.
These are cool ideas. We normally just point the ac vents at the seat and park in the shade. But last year, our car seat was lighter in color. Iโm a little concerned now because our new seat was only available in black.
the car seat is rear facing so the AC vent doesn't blow onto the seat at all ๐ซ
I like the car seat sun cover that we got but just have to remember to put it on when we leave the car.
Good tint, not just the dark stuff, but the actual heat rejecting kind.
Side note: I hate tint laws. ๐คฃ
