oof

so, jetbrains don't provide a .deb, but instead an appimage, which doesn't work with ubuntu 25 because ubuntu 25 has version 3 of fuse and not version 2

*sigh*

AUR FTW

I don’t use but gave you considered installing distrobox?

i was able to install fuse 2 so problem is solved

gnome really irritates me ever since they made version 4... you can't change the goddamn colors of the window frames and people even were complaining that they changed it from a neutral or warm colour to a blue tinted fucking colour in the current version, 48, which is on ubuntu 25

the HDR support is good though, although i dunno even if any of my games actually support it because it took so long for HDR support to be implemented on linux by gayland

i was pleased tho i did find a solution to the issue with night light not working, you have to go to the colour calibration settings for the displays and set a profile and then it works

hopefully this is gonna mean improved sleep for me when i work into the evening

You know for such an advanced user i am surprised you are on Ubuntu to begin with.

Have you tried giving NixOS, or Alpine Linux a go?

Maybe test out some new desktop environments like KDE Plasma 6, Cosmic, or even Cinnamon.

You might like Xubuntu. Everybody I put on it love it.

Only use Slackware and OpenBSD

It’s in my religion

beware the Stark Fist of Removal!

For other nostr users reference: “Distrobox is a way to make containerized software integrate like native apps, even if that containerized software belongs to a different distribution altogether.

The best thing about it, you get to build a development environment without requiring root privileges.”

sounds cool but my main concerns are adequate hardware support... even a year after getting an RX 7800XT there is still some holdouts that don't give adequate support for this AMD hardware, and not having HDR support was a big irritation since i have an OLED monitor

struggling for several days just to get a display on this thing a year ago has left scars

It’s dumb they can’t get it rolled out yet. It’s AMD and supposed to have kernel drivers being oss.

I guess you can’t really test the daily 2510 releases as those aren’t that different yet from 2504

it's the distros that are the problem, mainly, and i think the kernel devs are a bit culpable as well

linux went woke when linus stopped being salty and the whole project got coopted by DEI bullshit, and the kind of mentality of people who are woke are not even aware of the history of repeated attempts to quietly roll out back doors that especially Intel are guilty of, or the number of bugs that they baked into silicon

there's a reason why us AMD fans are salty, and why conservative developers have an axe to grind with the tech establishment

my grievances go all the way back to the asset stripping of Commodore at the peak of the Amiga's history, my endless hours of suffering with microsoft's monopoly operating system, to the point where i literally started to work as a tech because i knew that there was an endless supply of people with problems with it

How the fuck would being awake mean not knowing about backdoors?

My knowledge of backdoors deployed by companies like Intel is part of what makes me woke, retard

The more you don't know about shit like this, the more asleep you are

Oh man I didn’t expect a Lunduke response.

There’s truth to a lot of what you said.

I run OpenBSD and Slackware for similar reasons, but can’t avoid the Linux kernel issues with the latter

haha, i'm not familiar with Lunduke

i wish i could run freebsd but the hardware support is even worse, and bsd devs are crazy

I’ve accepted that I can’t agree politically, emotionally, even intellectually with anyone.

I can pick the best available tools and accept they too have reasons to protect what they do.

i agree with Dylan Thomas:

Do not go gentle into that good night,

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

things weren't as bad when i was a kid, and they were still bad then, but it's got completely out of control these days

it is fortunately a principle of nature, described very well in the Tao Te Ching that things that become too full, eventually must tip over and empty out

but i still can't help but point it out because the worse it gets the more inured people seem to be come and it drives me crazy

Right up your alley with everything you’ve stated

haha, yeah, man, i really hate gnome since they started with version 4

idk why this guy likes firefox tho, i'm very happy with brave, it's one of the few fixtures in my kit that has been reliable for now going on 5 years, and it puzzles me why nobody else in browser dev has implemented a feature like Brave Sync. despite their shitcoinery they do actually seem to care about security and privacy... i'm glad they have managed to keep abreast of the endless attacks on users with their work, but hell i'd probably pay a subscription for a premium version that has some extra features and polish
