sounds dope!! i currently use ubooquity but I'm curious about how it could work if i had my books on my relay instead. this is not the same thing as hypernote right?

No, hypernote adds hypermedia to a note, allowing you to use it like a webpage.

This is simply a new kind of event that adds a "table of contents" and similar publishing metadata to a collected, ordered list of other events.

So, you could publish a header called "Best of Lyn Alden" or "Gigi on Bitcoin" and include their original notes as the content listed. Then you aren't copying their work, you're just making a recommended list.

Or you could make one called "Tom Sawyer" or "The Bitcoin Standard", save each chapter to a note and then list them, to have a printable copy of that book.

Or have one called "Historical Sewing Techniques", where you alternate historical texts you've saved into notes, with articles you have written about medieval sewing needlepoint.

Or whatever you want. Group notes into a collection/book/Journal/compendium. Group books into a "Classical Homeschool Curriculum" or "Core Knowledge of Islam" or "Principles of Austrian Economics". Etc.

i really like the idea of using nostr as a text repository like this

reminds me, i need to go use one of those long form apps to start inputting content

i'm so often sitting here in nostrudel writing nonsense i should put some time into actually useful things

Until recently, only nonsense-chitchat formats were offered. Now we can write encyclopedia entries, bug reports, articles, and now entire books. 😊

i need to set up a relay again and start with the long form work... need it to let me restrict posting events to it that only make reference to my pubkey and not in my mute list nostr:npub10npj3gydmv40m70ehemmal6vsdyfl7tewgvz043g54p0x23y0s8qzztl5h you are an expert on this, can you throw something up like this, if so you're hired

Current setting options can do this already I think. You want a free trial to check it out?

He has a relay. Needs your GitHub repo, I think.

#[4] You need his relay.tools, right?

i would like it, i mentioned it before, just mainly similar settings as what you would want, to control who can post to it (at least poster npub) - and i'd want to pay some ways ahead of time, so i don't forget to keep the damn thing working and not lose all my shit once again

Maybe you should do a free trial, to see how his tools work. His source is FOSS on GitHub, so you could run a relay and use his tools on top.

But he's a great administrator, so I like paying him to fight trollbots and spam attacks and stuff.

haha... he paid me to do work that got me through a very tight spot back in december before i picked up work with hubmakerlabs

i know his sop quite well... i helped build a little of his infrastructure so i'm good, i wouldn't be so keen to use his services otherwise... i can do it myself but it's less time for me to spend on it if i just pay my buddy to do it anyhow, and i think mostly it's automatic, just may need a few bits of support

The settings to set for this would be:

Default Message Policy: Deny

Allow Events Tagged To Pubkeys

Blocked Pubkeys: your mute list

And then you can also do various kind restrictions if you don't want certain kinds or only allow certain kinds (the kind allow/block lists).

🎉🎉🎉

just DM me an invoice for 3 months of such services and any necessary instructions

It's possible to top up for as much as you want (custom amount). There is no automatic shut off, I will message on kind 1 once in a while manually if I notice you're past due or etc. it's a work in progress, but I error on the side of keeping the relays running. The url to billing is relay.tools/invoices (also via the menu).

I try to correspond via outbox model with the nostr:nprofile1qqsykd7klhautcjugml3jewuhtlw8zw04dl54tcdmw5m5vggk37ax3qpzfmhxue69uhkummnw3eryvfwvdhk6tcpr9mhxue69uhhxatswphhyapwdehhxarjxyhxxmmd9uq3gamnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwv3sk6atn9e5k7d7vlf5 support account. Unfortunately most of nostr is still moving to outbox, but I also will use my main blastr if I don't hear anything 😎

anyhow, i think the right way to do it is i set up wiki.mleku.dev as a CNAME redirect to mleku.nostr1.com so theoretically that should now send requests to my relay... i paid one month now - weirdly couldn't get alby to pay it, so i did it with my xapo, once i get this settled i want to book it ahead anyhow

Ah, yah I have very humble ⚡channels. 😂 Doh. Maybe I need another one.

Hm, I'll run some nak tests w that cname and see how it works, I haven't tried to cname a relay before but it prob works

main thing is i now have a CNAME from my DNS redirecting to the subdomain of my relay, you may know better than me any caveats i may need to account for, or configurations that need to be set

Ah, ya probably TLS... 🤔

unbelievable how fast porn spam got on the relay lol i swear i set whitelist, maybe i didn't do settings right, gonna keep looking

Are they tagging your pubkey? 🤔

i fixed the settings! no more bullshit lol

Settings look pretty good

very nice service, just bumped me for another month

So, here's the thing. Using a cname, that will 'work' but only if you don't mind that the cert is still gonna be for nostr1. The other option is you have a proxy that serves SSL for mleku.dev and reverse proxies to the nostr1 url..

I can't add wiki.mleku.dev to my cert chain because .. reasons.. tho I could look to see if it's theoretically possible..

meh, doesn't matter, mleku.nostr1.com is fine

if the relay had its own IP address i could bounce it using my reverse proxy but i presume you only have one or a few IPv4 addresses

so, never mind for now, it would cost more to do better than this, i know how this is and the speed at which it got bombed with global content before i got the policy settings right was astounding

somebody is camping your 10002s

yeah, haha, interesting way to describe it, what pissants

If you have a reverse proxy that would work. Just set it to the https for mleku.nostr1.com and it'll shuttle traffic back and forth. That's what I do for nostr21

oh, that's easy!

i'm quite pleased with my VPS setup... it only has public access via the reverse proxy on 80/443 and some arbitrary port number in the 5 digits that is my wireguard, and that's the only way to get to the SSH, so i never have logs full of login attempts, no key, no workee

haha, funny, instantly the whitelist of npubs are sending to my relay too... (you and stella) lololol

Haha! Ah ya cause I use blastr from amethyst. 😎😂 Nostr.watch picks up new 10002s very quickly from the nostr1 cohort relays it seems 🐳

Although wait, I think you have nip42 auth turned on so I dunno how blastr would be getting through unless they added auth support 🤔🤔🤔

But they can't, hm very strange

yeah i just turned it on, because i know that the people on my whitelist also use clients often that can do it now

prime example of why nip-42 is so important and useful... totally kills spam if you have a second level whitelisting by auth, but restricting publication by npub also is pretty powerful, but not as flexible

i'll probably relax the nip-42 tho, but it basically stops anyone reading from it without a client/bot-app that knows how to do that

Ya I'm confused, that's ok tho. I don't have this relay in my outboxen so I duno how it would get messages from me unless the auth didn't turn on..

i just turned it off, it was turned on only because of the pornspambot, but the policy is set right now so they can't post

also, it's now in my inboxes, wiki.mleku.dev so if your client knows nip-65 it may publish to it now

OHhhh nice 😎😎😎😎

yeah, this tech is awesome... the big improvements are invisible to the normies, but they are so pervasive in their effect

there is no doubt in my mind that this tech will eventually eat the social internets, the silos ain't got nothing on this

If you're happy I'm happy 🎉 back to my cave of writing this awesome nip66 latency measurement bot with arm64 support for a mesh of distributed relay monitors 🦎🦎🦎😎🐳

carry on my man, you are the administrator, can i get a little taxi number?

Jammin out to these on the PA 🐳

Lol, man I duno you may be pointing at your own relay still.. I ran a strfry scan it says 0 kind 1s in there .... 😁

i am not running my relay, it runs at 100% cpu after about 24 hours

that's why i've been reworking a lot of code in the last 3 weeks to eliminate memory allocation

after i'm done doing that in my spare time (i'll be back on the clock after 2 july) i'm adapting the best of the many go relays i have seen on github - in terms of simplicity, then i will add the fast badger data store with GC and then the whole shebang will be shunted into replicatr because it needs to be fixed

i'm just not being paid to get past MVP, it was ok for the demo, but it's not ok for production, i haven't been entirely forthcoming to my employer about this but i've been working my tail off to make it right because i want to trounce all the object oriented retards

next.nostrudel.ninja knows both nip-65 and nip-42 so if that's your client you will be able to post to it because i also whitelisted your npub

i have a reverse proxy i can point at it, i'll get the ball rolling with the payment tho

Relays that don't even have kind 1 are the new hotness 🔥🔥🔥

my relay is set to allow any event but only from awesome people... the list needs to be revised gradually but my relay got spammed so hard in seconds as i set it up that i'm not gonna rush to add allowed npubs

I can write to your relay. 🫂

yes, i've opened it to my favourite who have frequent appearances on my feed

Everyone has done Kind 1. It's so.... 2023.

This is exciting, can’t wait to see this live

Geocities 2.0

This sounds beautiful.

How do you plan to account for multiple versions of similar or the same headers?

I imagine that you are not aiming for a Wikipedia like approach which achieves consensus on the content in the background.

Thank you for your work!

If I have it right, ubooquity and related projects use OPDS to inform client devices. A nostr relay that spoke OPDS would be killer
