I was just asking. I don’t use a nym. There’s a movie where everyone has a clock that tells them at what time they’ll meet their soulmate. Now I don’t particularly believe in soulmates like that. But damn would it be nice to at least have a general idea of when I’d meet my person.

I believe in soulmates in the way two souls were meant to meet. Their paths were destined to cross. They don’t always walk together through life. Soulmates can actually shake up your life quite dramatically and be like an event that sets you on a different course. My conception of soulmates, you can have more than one. Maybe there is a different, better word for that idea?

I thought I met my partner when I was young. I never thought he was my soulmate. I did think we were gonna get married and have kids. I can honestly say with time I am so happy it didn’t work out. He was never really my person.
I dont know if there is the soulmate for each of us. If there’s one and you hangover that day and won’t make it on time? Oops, gone. I like the idea of many soulmates and you being able to find one of them if you look up from your phone more and open yourself up for being found too, as who knows which one of you would be “looking” more that day. I don’t know, but life is longer than first love and most likely longer than “that one that got away”.
I like the idea that what is meant for you won’t miss you. Though I’m not saying abdicate personal responsibility. You have to be ready and go after opportunities when they present themselves. In this day and age “the one that got away” can normally be found. I’m not sure there is one perfect life partner for a person. There are different paths every life can take. It’s a choose your own adventure.
Then I will go through the days with open eyes and ready for all eventallities
This whole idea that there is someone out there destined for each of us is a nice romantic idea… Its good, as long as who is the pick for me updates, every time I update my priorities, my dreams and expectations. When we change, there must be someone else for us, no?

Yes. But if someone was “meant” for you, but you missed a bus and never met them. But lets say that guy is still that person, okay. So now 10 years pass, he is living his life, learning changing hobbies, views, jobs… You also tho. You now here on nostr and he is somewhere else. Very likely you made different choices and maybe even tho still could be great for each other, with your choices you drifting now to be less compatible if you finally meet, 10 years from today. If we have agency over our choices but there is person or people foe each of us, I think there is a window where we can meet each of them and grow together. Then that train passes and there is another and another potential soul mate… 🚂
I dated the same guy, 4 years apart. We had no contact during the intervening years. Weirdly the first time we dated he had just had his heart smashed in a breakup. Second time we dated I had just had my heart smashed after a 3 1/2 year relationship. We had no contact during that time. We were like emotional support daters. 😂 He met his wife while we were dating the second time. God I hope to one day make a man as ridiculously happy as she made him.
I know a couple who knew each other in high school. They met again in their 60’s and fell head over heels in love. They both work in the same industry that is not common to where they are from. I’ve heard other similar stories.

I don’t think it’s that complicated. We just make it complicated. People like to have everything and often let the relationship take all the hits. Or are so fed up with their boring lives, that when they find someone special they hang on their new partner as if he’s their savior from everything thats horrible in their lives, suffocating their new special person. I think people are often fed up, beat up by the system, hurt by their previous relationships and lazy to work through any difficulties they encounter when they find someone. And sometimes they just hangover that day and they just pass on their chance for happiness… 🚶🏻♂️

I’ll add I ran into him again simply because I went to the post office not realizing it was Columbus Day. Passed him and thought was that so and so outside that coffee shop? Wouldn’t have actually talked to him had the post office not been closed. Thought it’s funny since it was Columbus Day on Monday. There’s also a whole chain reaction to us dating a second time and him messaging his now wife who he had a crush on in high school. Life can be a complicated web.

Have you ever heard that quote about the man who said he was married to like 5 different women and they were all his wife. You will grow and change over the years. The trick is finding a partner that loves and supports you through your exploration of life. My parents have changed a lot since I’ve known them and I’m sure they changed before that too. They still deeply love and support one another. Honestly being raised by those two lovebirds I thought finding a partner would be way easier.
