I could give it a try. 🫡
I could probably spin it up on my docker server. 🤔
So zap.stream could be self hosted?
Thats what I’ve been wanting for a while now…
Kieran needs to market this better!
Or maybe I need to write a blog.
Two ways to go depending on what you want to do.
You could run your own zap stream core server instance, make it available publicly and charge people for zaps.
Or if you just want to self host your own streams then that's even easier, use any RTMP server you like and then publish your own 30311 event.
That’s what I do currently, I stream using Owncast, which is on the ActivityPub protocol, it works really well but obviously doesn’t support zaps. Most traffic and chat comes to my server, not zap.stream.
More of an issue, for me at least is the archive, which is via PeerTube, I still can’t get it functioning with Podcasting2.0 properly…
Need to take a read up on Caststr
nostr:npub1yvscx9vrmpcmwcmydrm8lauqdpngum4ne8xmkgc2d4rcaxrx7tkswdwzdu uses this to send his owncast stream to nostr
Let’s talk, I have some hardware idle currently
I tried to do this but got stuck at the lnd part. I'm not sure how to install lnd. Does that need to install Bitcoin core?
I already have btcpay server, I wonder if I can use my btcpay server with the zap stream core service.
We definitely needs more backend nodes so the average person can stream.
I think the zap stream software is overkill. I don't want to run a full blown zap stream website. Is there any way to install the backend only? So people can use the rmtp to stream to their personal website?
I was thinking someone needs to make a backend software so they can stream using the software to their personal website. Then we don't even need zap stream front end.
Core is the backend I think?
Hosting your own lightning node will be overkill. Maybe there are some public lightning nodes that would be open to being the sponsor of new zap.stream hosts?
Oh so you mean if I install it. It's only the backend so streamers can connect to it? and I won't have a front end website like zap stream? that's exactly what I want.
The instructions say you need a lnd node. I assume it's because that's how streamers will pay you for them using your server.
Nobody seems to have installed it so we don't know. I assume because it requires technical expertise to install and manage which is what most people don't have or want. At least the streamers.
If you want the frontend as well I think you need to run https://github.com/v0l/zap.stream which is the frontend client
Yeah will need a LND to facilitate the zaps. I can’t see why that couldn’t be hosted elsewhere though
Zap stream core repo is the backend only. The zap implementation is optional and can be configured to off, and all ingest made free, if you prefer. There's also an admin repo with some UI for config etc.
Yes, running a normal RTMP server is easiest for personal use. Also yes, we need more ZS nodes
oh that's good news. I thought it was the front end to.
I'll see if I can install it without lnd, to see what it looks like. I dunno about letting others use my server without paying. Hopefully I can get lnd working. We'll see
I’ll give it a try. We use zap.stream for our podcast so this would be natural fit. Already have lnd running as well.
