I'm curious why Amethyst doesn't offer the option to request deletion of your note?

In the case of Iris it does eventually work after several tries. Just because it can't be reliable isn't a reason to not offer it. Users want it.

Is this covered in a NIP?

You can't delete a note though. Every client would have to mark it hidden and every relay would then have to mark it or purge it from their database. A delete on one client doesn't mean it's deleted elsewhere.

Technically, that’s what NIP-09 is about… but I agree nobody should expect it to be implemented perfectly across all relays and clients.

In practice Iris requesting deletion a few times over a day or two eventually purges my accidental note enough that it no longer appears in my Amethyst client. Yes it sucks that it can't reliably work on the first try but it does eventually work. It doesn't work on the first try because your connectivity to relays is not reliable.

"Request Deletion" is the honest way to name it.

It can work if enough clients and relays adopt the spec, just to hide it, but there will always be β€œundeleters”, if its sent its sent

You can’t delete multiple copies of your notes from multiple decentralized relays

I don't think there is a point in having the "delete" option as it makes you feel you can actually delete it when it's not the case
