In case you missed it, Snort's relay is now paid via subscriptions.

https://snort.social/subscribe to get write access to the relay and more

Is the platform for subscription based relays open source?

Im using nostr-rs-relay which has a subscriptions feature (beta) based on lnbits, I'm not using this i just restrict write access via the NAuthZ service

Perfect cheers. Didn't know Nostream had subscription support already. Will check it out over the weekend!

Yep most paid relays are nostream afaik, probably stryfry has it too idk

Yeah I have a paid relay setup with Nostream, just didn't know it already had subscription support. Very useful for a project I'm working on.

why though? Whats wrong with the dozens of free relays?

All free relays will die, and you will lose all your events. At least with paid relays there should be less chance of that happening

Do you know if you can connect relays together like a channel? Iโ€™m envisioning having my private relay connected to the other relays I like to use so that all my notes and events are stored on my own private relay, but still connected to everyone else through the large public relays.

What about a communitt supported relay?

There is cost associated with running a relay. Electricity, maintaining it through time commitment and the hardware for operation and storage needs. If this cost isnโ€™t shared by the users, it is inherently limited.

Subscribe button not working for me:

Subscription button doesnโ€™t work for me. Iโ€™ve been trying for a few days.
