Maybe it depends on the relay?
I don't know their process for deleting a note, but they definitely have an option that works. 
You ask relays to delete .. it's up to them.
Same happens with Facebook Google and any big tech
"you delete -> no normal user see it.
BUT you don't know if that data is or is not anymore on their servers ..
since this is a decentralized protocol.. any relay can decide to "delete" posts or not.
If not it will still be visible from the corect relays.
A good mechanism for cultivating a low time preference. Or at least for slowing down to reread and spell check.

No edit though. But you can delete and write a new post instead of edit 🤓
You can ask relays to delete a note of yours, but they can ignore that request.

Well, wait a sec. How do you interpret nip-09 delete request? That’s exactly for event deletion. We can send note creation requests to relays, why do you think we cannot send deletion requests? Honestly, I don’t get how that would be hard.
And if you try, you will be BANNED from nostr for life!!!
