Trumpās ambition to build more ships could be a move to break from NATO. Thoughts?
Hard to cross oceans and even harder with a massive blockade.
Just a thought. Curios what you think.

Cover your sea bases. Cover the air bases with the iron dome.
Probably so, he has voiced how he doesnāt want to be part of nato anymore.
Itās probably good for world peace. Europe should fund their own defense. Stop relying on US.
Yeah, maybe they will stop funding and provoking wars too if they know they are on their own.
America is the only country that has ever called up its NATO allies for its defense. I don't think that fact squares with your apparent perception of European nations leeching off the capabilities of the United States, and relying on America for their defense.
The US would have way fewer bases around the world in that scenario.
Thoughts?
Probably fine to cut down on some. Keep the strategic ones and have a mobilization strategy that does not rely on permanent bases.
It's 100% an attempt to counter China and stay relevant in the Pacific. China currently far outweigh the US in ship building capacity
Dunno about NATO stuff, but i believe weāre severely lacking in building military ships after closing many shipyards after ww2, since our focus shifted to a different economy. Our commercial ships are primarily from South Korea as well. Our country doesnāt seem financially incentivized or prepared to take on reopening more shipyards for defense prep. If this question was brought up 2 years ago, people would have laughed. But it seems like a vulnerability since Chinaās been stacking ships for the last 30 years like bitcoin maxis.
š I wonder what the Chinese fleet is like now.
China has A LOT of ships & the US has almost no ship building capabilities. They imo are trying to change this
370 vs 290 US. Not that far behind. Counts themselves not as critical as what the ship can do prob. But yeah, good to have capability to build.
US has more destroyers and carriers
But they will age & china is pumping out ships; āfor every one oceangoing vessel that we can produce, China can produce 359 in one single year.ā

Hitting two birds with one stone.
Counter Chinese ships and ramp up need for domestic steel production = jobs
People from a country that has been at war for most of the last 50 years talk about war. You are just scary! š±
You are not a fan of defensive planning? Maybe we should leave ourselves exposed and reliant on ⦠*checks list of countries we can rely on* oh, nobody.
I think leaving NATO would be among the dumbest things he's ever done. NATO is the most successful military alliance in world history, and has been built from the ground up, by the United States, to address US needs. Trump likes to clamor on about how nothing is fair, and how other member nations are taking advantage of the US but A) member nations don't pay into NATO, like its a fund, and B) The United States remains the only member nation to ever call upon the alliance in their defense.
All his reasons for wanting to leave are the result of ignorance of the facts, and a failure to understand what the alliance actually is, and how it works. It's embarrassing, really. All of the US concerns about China are also held by the other member nations. Effectively throwing away a massive military force at your disposal, which is needed to combat another massive military force like China is just stupid. Because America would have a very difficult time combating China militarily on its own. The NATO alliance would be incredibly helpful in combating the Asian superpower.
And no matter what Trump thinks about Putin helping him against China, that ain't gonna happen because China, unlike the US, is a neighbor of Russia and they share logistical and strategic interests that go well beyond Trump's comprehension. Russia isn't going the have America's back in a fight with China.
I just hope there's one or two people left in his administration who understand the benefits of NATO, and the geopolitical realities of our increasingly strained relationship with China, and the role Russia plays between the two nations.
Yep for sure
There's a lot of weird stories about a ufo base near Indian Ocean--Maybe that.
Plus it "creates jobs"
