PSA: you don’t need to get “verified” on nostr.

If anyone says otherwise and shares a link or asks for money - it’s a scam.

You CAN purchase a neat vanity nostr address but it’s totally optional. You can also get one for free - optional as well.

There’s no significant benefit to it other than sharing a shorter address with people - easier to find.

It can help identify real person from impersonator but mostly only if you’re well known already and tend to get impersonated often.

Cheers and GN! 👋 😴

And we have a bot spamming every new person about this. Ugh.

Goodnight brother.

This is and prompted this note. Super annoying bot 🤖

That's why people think you can't use Nostr without being a bitcoiner. First thing they see is some joker spamming them for sats.

Karnage is absolutely 100% correct here and I say this as the very first person to setup a Nostr address service probit in December 2022.

You don't need a Nostr address. You don't need to purchase one from me or any other provider. Though, Nostr addresses are nice to help you be found and identified in a human readable format.

(I'll help you setup your own if you have a domain and website! DM me!)

how to verify nostr ?

You don’t need to. But if you insist, there are some services there. I think NostrCheck is free by nostr:npub138s5hey76qrnm2pmv7p8nnffhfddsm8sqzm285dyc0wy4f8a6qkqtzx624 (if not mistaken)

Yes it’s free, and yes, It is not a verification. Thanks for thinking of me 😀

if someone fucking calls it verification again then I might quit

😂

I agree but I feel that we are in need of some form or voluntary market based verification service.

Bla bla bla all you want about WOT but I don't see it working. Not yet anyway.

There should be a way to lock a nsec to a username to discourage impersonation

Can’t lie, i love my address

This is all true, but I do like NIP-05...

As there is only one npub tied to "bitcoinpup" on my nostr.json file on bitcoinbarks.com, there is only one bitcoinpup@bitcoinbarks.com that will show up with a check mark.

I like that no one else can prove to be me.

I'm a nobody, and yet I have impersonators... Fortunately they aren't good at updating to reflect profile changes...

This is how NIP-05 is supposed to work. At least that's how I've always understood how it works and what it's suppose to represent. It supposed to be a domain you either directly control or directly represent. None of this twitter-handle-esque nonsense. That's what display names are for. That and verifying the npub.

You need to set up a lightning address! I had to like your reply instead of zapping you!

#v4v

I don't deal in lighting. On-chain only.

You're missing out! It's fun...

Not that I'm going to tell anyone how they must or must not use bitcoin.

I don't use lightning because I think it tries to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

I suppose we all have our own problems and that dictates what we consider to be problems that require solving.

I know plenty of people who think that Bitcoin tries to solve a problem that doesn't exist...

I supose that is the long and short of it.

How about entering your nsec into other clients? Does one have to do that to use all the features in the client?

Yes you need to enter your nsec to get full features of the clients. Many of the mobile app and desktop clients use the on device keychain to store your nsec. This means when you enter it into the app it goes into your private on device keychain rather into the app. Nos.social does this and I’m pretty sure the other major apps do this as well.

Where do you get vanity addresses? Thank you

How can I get a primal.net/username address?
