I just realized I’ve hit a new stage in life. I don’t game anymore.

Sometime over the past year, I got frustrated with how much time I was spending gaming, so I wiped my PC and switched to Linux. Again. (I've been doing this for the last two decades, that or dual booting both.)

I knew I wouldn’t be able to play competitively on Linux, especially Overwatch 2, my main game, due to lower frame rates and stability issues.

In the past, after about six months, I’d start missing gaming, reinstall Windows, and jump back in, usually dominating in high Platinum or low Diamond 😜

But this time, I don’t miss it. #vibecoding has completely filled that gaming void.

I need the how to vibe code? For dummies

the absolute easiest way to get started is to use a tool like the one that @Soapbox built called #Shakespeare. you can visit https://shakespeare.diy and get started by just having a conversation.

this isn't a sales pitch. i've used a dozen tools or agents or llms over the past 4+ months that i've been vibe coding.

i have some tutorials and guides out there.

im working on a new one for prompting and hope to release it this week.

https://www.protondb.com/app/2357570 there is always a way

Respect! 💪Turning gaming time into #vibecoding time sounds like a next-level life upgrade.

it's honestly a great upgrade. im more productive and contributing to society :)

Linux all the way! Self custody is based.

i've ran so many distro's since the 90's lol

i now settle on Ubuntu Server for all of my personal stuff and REHL for all of my corporate stuff at the fiat mine.

im personally running Pop OS right now. i like it. prior to that, i ran Elementary OS for many years, but that's only because i know someone on the team and wanted to support their work.

Yeah mate there isn’t a right answer and always changes as you go along. I like Arch as my desktop wit and use Snapper etc etc… means best of both worlds. Could never go back to screenshotting, advert prison. Once you know you know I guess! :p

been gaming since i was gifted a NES from santa claus ;)

Atari 2600 here...wow, I'm old.

Hey, me too. Pitfall ftw

oh wow you're right. how did i forget about my atari 2600. i used to love defender, missile command, jungle hunt, keystone kapers, and tank.

I’ve never gamed precisely due to time spent / wasted. It’s too valuable.

I don't hate the years of my life that I've wanted in gaming, specially WoW or Overwatch. I had fun and made a lot of friends.

That’s called getting one’s priorities straight. Your time preference is falling, which is a good thing. Other than dopamine hits, gaming doesn’t procure lasting outcomes. Vibe coding is personally rewarding, but produces actual results that others can benefit from.

I had a stage in life where gaming got reduced to silly flash browser games, like a senile person.

I don't play nothin' now. Except the piano.

I don't have an opinion on it really, just happened. Just a slight discomfort when I can't contribute to some

conversations 😅

Flash games 😂 Wait. Like Farmville?

Everything on Kongregate, like Desktop Tower Defense, Gem Craft, Burrito Bison... Some titles marked as faves.

That was the time when I started thinking about a universaland independent game quest and eternal high score system.

Fast forward. Nostr exists. There is a NIP-133 Gamestr, but I don't think anyone is using it or building on it.

Or am I wrong?

Nothing wrong with gaming taking a backseat, especially when you find yourself creating!

An hour of gaming a week is enough for me — then the gnawing feeling of ‘I should be doing something else’ arrives.

An hour was never enough. I would get very competitive.

I have 2 computers on kvm switch. My main computer is using Linux. I do everything on it. My second computer is a windows computer strictly used for gaming.

I tried dual booting but it was a pain. Gaming on Linux has issues.

Using a KVM switch is amazing. Also, since I only use my windows computer for only gaming. I have never had issues with windows. No virus or other issues.

I love using Linux as my main os, been doing that for many years.

I only game 1 hour a day. It's fun. You just need to learn discipline.

hehe. i used to do this back in 2004-2007 or so. i haven't used a KVM since :)

I wish someone told me about kvms earlier. Very useful. Dual booting sucks because then you gotta turn off your computer and restart your vms and tabs and stuff.

but kvms can't help you with your gaming addiction.

the reboot sucks for sure, but the KVM ended up not working for me because i didn't want to run an inferior computer lol , usually what would happen is my newest computer would be the gaming computer and the older one would be the linux one.

oh I see what you mean. ya, now that I remember, I ran into that problem too so I ended up buying 2 computers of almost equal specs but the gaming computer had a better video card. it was expensive at the time but I've had those computers for 10 years and since I don't play the newest games I'm going to keep them for another 10 years.

Um... if you wanted to game again, I've got alternative you'd like based upon Overwatch 2 (which actually is Activision slop nowadays).

Xonotic, OpenArena (with Ratmod or Omega), Sauerbraten, Black Ops 2 with Plutonium... need I say more?

I gamed a ton as a kid, then took a 25-year break. Picked up a Steam Deck for a long flight and ended up rediscovering the joy of gaming.

YES! I felt exactly that 😀

My version of this is that I only play old games, in solo mode. Like Civ IV Warlords or Diablo.

I've just managed to quit gaming this year for the first time. It was too much of a time suck. But man, I do miss it most days. Especially on a saturday like today with not much going on... Sort of a constant battle

but have you played the new Dune MMO? 👀

I'm vibing until BF6 is released, then I'll play that until GTA VI is released and you won't see me for a couple of days at least

Last game I played was Unreal tournament.

Yup. Not interested in gaming either. Specifically competitive ones. I’m waiting for Hollow Knight Silksong. I’ll play that.

GTA 6 will release before Silksong...

supposedly there's a closed beta this month

can't wait anymore man

For Silksong or for GTA 6?

Nice to hear that!

Keep going!
