The more they try to scam, the easier it will be to detect future scams

I saw this and zapped it a few times. Then I saw another similar one pop up with a different kid so I got suspicious. Also, they just kept posting the same thing over and over again, no updates on her progress. It’s sad that scammers would take advantage of the generosity of others by pulling at their heart strings with a fake story of a kid suffering from cancer.

This is not an issue, these scams are important lessons. They teach us to not be a sucker and not to trust but to verify. Great for whoever called out the scam, and any money lost would be the price we had to paid.

The only zapping that happened between my npub and theirs was the "phishing" 8 Sats zaps - and I got at least 2 of them. maybe 3 🤣

I zapped a now deleted account for this a few weeks ago. Really sad to hear if it was all a scam

Stuff like this is really demoralizing since it takes advantage of the best part of our humanity- empathy for those in need.

Web of trust is probably the best solution but intuition is always key.

I saw this and the skeptical part of me said nah. Too many reposts of the same things in a loop, and too many likes and small zaps of my mediocre notes.

Scammers will probably read these threads and iterate, so maybe be extra generous to those in your real life to compensate for not donating to things on here?

It's messed up to impersonate the parent of a sick child like that but it wasn't actually any kind of issue.

Some people sent them some sats, nobody was actually forced to, nothing about nostr has been compromised.

If you go on Facebook there are a million or more of these scams and nobody claims that it's a problem with Facebook.
