I may be a loner in thinking this but imo Zuckerberg’s bet on VR/AR might actually be the right one.

It’s the challenge of them running out of funds vs actually making it work.
What I’ve seen so far has been goofy, but Internet was also goofy and quirky back in the day 🤷♂️
Agree. I don’t know if the business aspect of it will make any sense in the short term or even medium term, but the grand vision is actually smart. If they make it through, they may do quite well.
It’s an absolutely huge risk of a bet to take, but Instagram and Facebook really are dying, and losing popularity, which makes pivoting into AR/VR make a lot of sense.
With the amount of investment and development happening there, they may likely become THE flagship in the sector, so would definitely not bet against them 💜
I agree
It’s a long term plan. No one today really uses VR/AR on a daily basis. Too clunky and hurts your head.
Plus you look dumb with it on.
Whoever bet on the simulation we’re currently living in must be killing it. What’s another turtle on the stack? 🐢🐢🐢
I’m with you. I would take a flyer on meta if I wasn’t so balls deep on bitcoin
You are correct, but it's the Kodak version of the original digital camera right now. Lots of doublings left before it's useful to the average person.
do you have an oculus? Do you like it?
I don’t. Haven’t dabbled yet. My take is that the tech will progress so much that it’ll be hard to notice it.
I’ve thought about getting one but mostly just for virtual desktop… I see a future of AR but I think for the most part it will be rectangular.
I’ve had the thought, maybe I’ll get a steam deck and run the gossip client on it… i feel like meta could be in that mind space but isn’t.
The thought of spending time and having conversations in a Meta controlled VR creeps me the fuck out.
same will happen libra project
as always we need to wait for apples version to make this shit suitable for the masses.
I actually just got a Meta quest set in order to use an app that basically is a soccer / football simulator for training. I'm not interested in Meta's use case per se but I can see how VR can be immensely advantageous and beneficial as a simulator in preparing for certain real world activities such as athletics but also more high risk things like surgery or possible emergency situations or for police training, etc. In my experience so far, it has helped my soccer playing performance significantly since I am able to get a lot more reps in with my brain without exhausting the body.
AR>VR ? Was checking out AR monocles - pretty neat. Tapping into large industry pmf
