The worst part of tech invading the car market? Now every review covers engine power, acceleration, and... screen size.

What's the latest car model that won't rat on you to insurance companies?
Keep in mind that anyone who disabled the narc mode or drives a car that never had built in narcing will be presumed guilty of shitty driving no matter their driving record. Then they will be charged extra for their crimes.
So, are buses like coinjoins?
Then old cars are lightning? Cheaper because no payment and I get there faster because I'm not waiting 3 seconds at every stopsign and driving 5 under all the time.
Then it will just be California where you aren't allowed to register old vehicles anymore.
Buses are more like cash in this metaphor.
We need to make the cars private, not revert to the buses.
And other cars will snitch on you https://www.thedrive.com/news/ford-researching-tech-that-snitches-on-speeders-to-the-police
Any car that has the display in the middle of the dashboard or makes you use a touchscreen to turn on your windshield wipers or headlights can fuck all the way off.
when i finally get vehicles it's gonna be a dirt bike and probably a lada niva with crank either the siberia edition or added on
there's so many things about cars that i prefer to walk, taxi or take a bus, in that order of preference... but i hope to someday literally need one, and it's gonna be low tech as possible
Worst for me is the “score”. My car gives me a score for eco driving after every ride. If I have to slam on the breaks to avoid an accident, the score goes down?
I got personal use on a beautiful Silverado Elevation through work and I just can’t believe how deep the Google integration is on it. $70k to drive around a giant smart phone that’s tracking everything by default if you let it.
I spent an hour going through menus just to shut down all of the services I could access that were tracking EVERYTHING and even trying to suck personal usage and contact info off of my phone.
Now that I have that done, it’s like I’ve broken its brain. Error messages every time I start it up, complaining that it can’t do its job if I don’t enable Google services.
All I want is a naturally aspirated 1987 Chev Silverado 4x4 with a 5.7L V8 stroker and no computer in it. Keep the heated seats and steering wheel and media centre with the IMAX sized screen lol
That's why I keeping my 2004 running as long as possible. When it dies I might upgrade to a 2006.
So dumb.
I really hope that we someday see some real competitors rise up so that we don't all have to intentionally allow ourselves to be screwed over by these car manufacturers. I don't need a smart car. I just want a regular car.
All I need it to do is to allow me to get from one place to another. I don't need it up to have all of these other features built in. If I want that, I can build something for myself.
It will never happen. Once things get tech, they never go back. Automated driving is more likely than a reversal to a dumb car.
3D printed cars when? 😁
i disagree, some things were just dumb ideas... i think that self driving cars is going to be a collossal disaster once something bad happens
the game Deus Ex: Mankind Divided contains a story involving this happening with cybernetic augmentations and then a critical component common to all of the implants is hacked and millions of people are killed by cybernetic implants gone mad
That happened in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Mankind Divided was the sequel.
Sadly true. Try finding a non-smart TV these days.
easiest solution is to just get the oldest car you can and if that's still shit move somewhere you can get an older one that isn't shit
very often just being in a city makes all of that harder, out in the country they just don't have the resources to police that shit as much
That works for now, but I'm talking about decades from now when old cars are just not able to be repaired anymore. In that case, we really don't have any other option. It's either, use a "smart car" or use public transportation. Both play right into the hands of the whole 15-minute cities crap.
i'm not living in a city with "smart" anything or "15 minute" or pods
they can come and try and get me out in the middle of nowhere
i can assure you, they won't waste their time with us "proles" we just have to stay out of their way
also i don't think their system has got more than 15 years left in it, mainly because by then likely half the satellite grid gets knocked out by a micronova
also, classics tend to stay in good supply of spares for decades... the Lada Niva is like 40 years old and you can still find old ones around because they were so durable and practical... even they are still in use, like the bulgarian police still have a few at least they did a couple years ago
Cubians have been keeping their cars on the road for a long time. Haven't been able to import any since the 50's.
A lot of the "developments" are driven by governments senseless regulations, especially in the EU.
The regulations seems senseless to us, but they make perfect sense if you look at them in a sense of control.
Every good review covers how easy is to turn off annoying regulatory "safety" assistants 😁
I recently experienced the "Lane Keep" feature in a new Kia and it was borderline dangerous! At just the wrong moments it would attempt to veer toward something I was actively trying to avoid in the road. It was a rental or I would have spent more time digging in menus to disable it.
I’d love the Toyota 10k bare bones truck.
Some of us are paying them so they can harvest all the information they need…
I wrote a piece related to the car market.
At the Korean car manufacturer Kia, huge security holes were recently discovered. IT researchers could quickly scan and control almost any car, including tracking its position, unlocking it ... even driving routes. All thanks to a "relatively simple flaw" in a web portal.
