With voice cloning, I wonder how that’ll impact the process of grieving over a loved one’s death 🤔

Will people use cloned voices to help bring closure by making them say things they wish they heard while that person was alive? Or will it prolong the grieving process unnecessarily?

What other applications might voice cloning have? Book transcriptions and translations? 🤔

Voice cloning + advanced CGI = actors "live" forever

True …

I imagine the day will come sooner rather than later where voice is translated in real time communication. That would be something …

just had the thought that this might have an inverse impact of bringing people closer together in a way. when face to face becomes the only trusted method of communication

Hmmm, good point.

Talking of which, Hong Kong be like, that detergent is dirty.

Exactly it has a massive diminishing effect on the trust or value of communication with any person who you do not know personally, or haven't met and verified in meat space.

The world of fake everything and believable, unique, video and voice capable chat bots that are indistinguishable from conversing with a human and have their own personalities, will drive massive re-localization of community, IMO.

💯 I like to think that it increases the incentive to get to know your fellow man

A precursor to this black mirror episode https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Be_Right_Back

I gotta rewatch that

Scams are gonna skyrocket, I wonder how that’ll be countered.

nsec signed messages

Maybe, one could use it to replicate a lover who has left them? Terrible idea, but I believe someone would do it.

Oh man.. next thing you know they make a bot that looks and take like them and they are in a relationship 😂

Talks *

Exactly. I’ve learned a lot about myself after reflecting on why someone has left me. All that learning disappears, to be replaced by millions of emotionally stunted people 🤣.

Have you seen this Black Mirror episode? If not you should definitely check it out

Just finished watching. Perfect.

Voice cloning will leading much more effective social engineering…

A good practice as time goes on is to be extremely skeptical of what you hear on the phone.

With loved ones establish convention for things that ARE NOT discussed over the phone - high security topics but also some simple topics that might come up early in an attackers intrusion attempts.

Raising of such topics over the phone triggers 1) Use of code words verifying authenticity or safety status if duress is suspected or urgency is signaled and 2) request to switch to video call.

Worried about court evidence. Like a deepfake voice tape that A says some harassment type stuff to B. Then B wins

Can’t even imagine what’s going to happen in criminology. The tools to tell fakes will have to be better than the fakes. But then what if they too make a mistake 🤦‍♂️

that's definitely something to think about. one day (not so lomg from now) we will be able to carry on conversations with deceased loved ones by combining user data (likes, dislikes, ideologies etc from their digital lifetime or based on manual input or both with ai voice/chat tech)

You can already clone a voice now, prob not perfect but will get perfect over time, and make it say what you want it to say. The missing piece is it talking on its own based on precisely what too said (black mirror episode).

Seems like this is not that far off.

Autogpt confirms this.

San Junipero here we come 💜

I could see how it may be helpful for some people, possibly provide them a chance to work through any emotions, regrets, or traumas, but ultimately radical acceptance is part of the grieving process.

Overall, I don’t like how society is moving towards more manufactured experiences. There is no substitute for real life, genuine human connection. It’s part of the reason why people can have thousands of online friends and still feel lonely and miserable. I imagine a computer impersonating a human being isn’t much better.

I imagine services like Facebook will offer to memorialize their users after death so that other users can still interact with the account and chat with it.
