I am against mixed marriages.

Catholics should only marry Catholics.

It had to be said.

as always strong opinion 🤣

No point voicing my weak ones. Where would be the fun in that?

Helau! 🥳

I agree. I have been in mixed marriages before and they didn’t work out (notice past tense/ plural) sad 😔

Why?

The 🐍s at the top do :110percent: follow that advice.

No worries there.

Why would a Catholic want to be with someone who was not. It seems to me a marriage should be between 2 people with similar world views and faiths.

What about mixing marriage with alcohol and death?

That sounds okay.

For marriages sounds good. I'm wondering how to tell a new acquaintance that I'm not too keen on going to the full Moon intention setting evening. "I'll do yoga and we can be friends but I'm scarrred of hippie spirituality" stuff. I think I have to say it sooner than later.

Or maybe doing yoga on the full moon and telling the universe what I want is all harmless? After all I'm absorbed in getting what I want every minute of the day anyway so what's the difference.

"Dear moon 🌙, thanks for being up there in the sky... Hey I really need to slack off the caffeine and be more grateful for things. I'll have it all done by the next time you come around again. "

😅

All you have to say is "no thanks, I already have a religion."

That's a great point. It takes recognizing that there no room for more than one. Once one figures out that it is a religion.

It's slippery because what's the problem with using the moon to make New year's resolutions. Kinda like Christmas trees for to celebrate Christmas.

In my experience, all of this stuff is atheists and agnostics trying to fill the spiritual void in their lives without actually committing to anything. They know they are missing something but can't give up moral relativism. It's better to avoid that kind of person altogether. You just can't trust them.

ahah hippie witch is a no go,, been there done that, apparently somehow it does not involve marriage or children despite those being natural things

i would convert if i had a catholic lady on the hook, just sayin

i'm allowed to read apocrypha and do esoteric things as a catholic so i'm cool with that

😅

i haven't met one young catholic here yet but maybe i should just attend mass and see what i see... my portugesh is getting better so i probably would actually understand part of teh sermon too

call it "infotourism" for now

i think i will go to mass this sunday anyway, i pass the church every day and hear the funny different bell signs for things on the weekend

maybe the local faithful ladies will notice

but would it be disingenous to do it for curiosity and possible ladies to marry?

i dunno, i think that might be perfectly catholic too actually

My dad converted, and I reverted. It happens.

i say, i can make whatever prayer when i plant my candle estearina and i'm not gonna split hairs when it comes to the question of what day i should rest in the week, i think that there is some nuance to this

Catholic count from Saturday evening to Sunday evening.

The confusion arises from the modern habit of starting the day in the morning.

yes and for jews that is friday evening

but i'm not a jew and i'm certainly not SDA anymore, and my reading of genesis and two separate apocrypha detailing the same timeline says that there is some confusion about these details, an example being the timeline of the lifespans versus the modern time, because i am pretty sure that by the geology, babel was 6000 years ago, and that the whole thing has been corrupted

now, who was it was saying, someone was saying ... i know that the muslims believe that the fallen angels deliberately corrupt the texts, and even at the "official" 6000 years since Adam there is a mess

also, the modern morning being start of day is also out of sync with the official time setting the day as starting at midnight

and yeah, speaking of genesis, it even says in all three verisons i've read that corrupting the calendar would lead to decadence. and it has.

not only that, who defined october to december? that guy is clearly wrong, naming months after emperors is also wrong, this is not christian, how does a pope get off on defining secular things as being christian?

i'm in catholic country, and i'm getting better at portuguese, and i wouldn't even consider wasting my time with a secular maderiersa

In my limited experience, mixed-faith marriages where one spouse doesn't quickly convert tend to struggle more.

Sacramental grace is real, yo.

Marriage works only when it is clear to both partners that it is a responsibility.. a commitment .. it is a workplace where you show up every single day of the week and about eighty hours a week . You leave your ego at the door .... the goal is to raise children .. each about 1000 x bigger natural intelligence than chatGPT ..

If expectations are love and care ..etc .. better stay single :-)

Not everyone needs to marry ..this holy sacrament is for chosen few who want to take on most ambitious challenge!

Being if same faith , same socio-economic status ..helps ..

How do you feel about converts? Many people convert to their spouse's religion when they get married.

*cough*

All Christians who confess the ecumenical creeds are a part of 'the one, _catholic_ ('universal'), and apostolic church.'

Some are of the _Roman_ denomination, others Protest it. I, for example, am a catholic, but I think Rome got it wrong at Trent (you probably disagree), so I am not a _Roman_ catholic.

Just sayin.

But I agree that it is unwise to mix these in marriage: the differences are not insignificant, and 'how can two walk together, unless they are agreed?' Marriage is hard enough without this added layer.

🤙

I always make sure to capitalize the "C", to make it clear that I don't mean "catholics". Same with "orthodox"/"Orthodox".
