I'm excited to hear what you think. I'm pretty sure I've had it once or twice in my life, but, not that I can say for certain.

I was like..?? Then I figured you probably meant raw cow's milk as opposed to packaged milk maybe? We always buy raw cow milk! Then boil it and drink it or incorporate it in other recipes just like the packaged milk. And store in the refrigerator. Were you thinking about drinking it raw or something?

Also, remember that you're intolerant! ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ˜…

My relatives in India all boil the milk they get delivered too because it's raw, haha. I dunno if I'll drink it raw because I don't drink packaged milk directly either. I usually just cook things with milk in them, and I take lactase pills when I do.

The culture to culture differences of food habit is crazy! I mean its one thing to see it through the daily routines of some influencers and movies etc. But when you're here, in a place like Nostr, where it is full of interactions with no boundaries and algorithm. Things just come so much closer to you and you can see a broader and more diverse picture of everything. That's when I first realized how different we are in our food habits and practices. It's beautiful really.

Good luck with the raw milk! ๐Ÿค๐Ÿค—

Tastes strange and greasy

If you end up not like it straight or the flavor profile it adds to coffee or smoothies, you can use it to make all kinds of things, such as yogurt or pudding.

My family and I only drink raw milk. If you trust who you're getting it from, just drink and enjoy.

Do you boil the milk at all or drink it actually raw? My parents grew up getting raw milk delivered every morning in India, and their families always boiled the milk before using it.

The shopkeeper I bought mine from just said to keep it in the back of the fridge and keep it cold, but legally wasn't allowed to tell me anything about drinking it, lmao ๐Ÿ˜‚

Nope don't boil it at all. Like I said if you know and trust who you bought it from and you trust that they are using safe storage and clean milking areas you should be fine.

You're buying raw milk, you might as well just buy pasteurized milk rather than boil it. Pasteurization isn't even boiling it, it's bringing it up to 160ยฐ F. This kills off bacteria but also kills off any beneficial properties of the milk. Milk can be one of the most beneficial animal fats but you completely ruin it by boiling it.

Thank you for the explanation ๐Ÿงก

If itโ€™s the first time drinking it, you might have some tummy trouble.

I donโ€™t boil, but I know where it comes from and conditions at milking. Three legged stool, by hand, into a stainless steel bucket. Keep it as chilled as possible. Iโ€™ll bet you never switch back!

๐Ÿ„ The Ayurvedic View On Drinking Milk

Thank you ๐Ÿ™

nostr:npub17a0glnlewhgdu6wuah5kwn7ewf649zu63ypq2pmyxh8y0z6uk6vqpttptf I'm curious if you have any advice about how to consume raw milk from an Ayurvedic perspective.

i was going to say, โ€œwith your mouth holeโ€, but im not sure if we share the same humor, so ill just think it.

outloud.

Vedas would agree, the mouth is the optimal entry point for raw milk ๐Ÿ˜‚

id be concerned if there were confusion on this point.

Usually Ayurveda says to boil the raw milk. Then add spices (such as ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, etc) so it's not mucus forming.

Note that Ayurveda typically recommends cooking everything and avoiding cold, uncooked food or beverages. Water is usually served at room temperature or luke warm. This aids digestion by keeping agni (digestive fire) strong.

Regarding raw milk, typically one would drink a small glass, like 6 ounces and it's drunk alone.... like a snack.

In India, I have seen it given to vegetarian children in the morning before school ... A few extra calories, fat and protein to start their day.

Personally, I drink it at night (spiced) when I'm hungry but don't want to eat something heavy. It warms my belly and then I can sleep well.

Let me know how you like it โœจ๐Ÿ™

Yes. This elaborates on why milk is generally drunk alone.

It's because Ayurveda says certain combinations of food produce ama (Sanskrit word meaning toxins) . Ama sticks to cells and tissues and inhibits cellular communication, and sometimes can make the cells unrecognizable to each other. At that point, they will start attacking each other, causing inflammation that can lead to autoimmune and other diseases

So... It's easier to just drink milk alone ๐Ÿ˜
