The two cringest ways to start a note:

1) "People often ask me..."

Oh fuck off Rebecca nobody asks you asking

2) "So let me get this straight..."

*Insert Weakest possible strawman argument*

10 different reasons why this note triggers me

THREAD 1/78 🧵

So toxic 😆

L + ratio

Oh I forgot about this dumb ratio thing

Check my timeline on here and I’ve not used these phrases yet so I’m probably good for now 🤣

Another one

BREAKING NEWS:

"let's be clear..."

“Honestly”

Oh I now that big blank space at the bottom means:

"I had more to say but chose not to note it"

Actually...

So let me get this straight: you are against this kind of notes even though people often ask me how to get my kind of engagement?

As a developer.. do you drink water?

Yes lots

“Im going to be honest with you here”….

Really, you have to tell me your next words are going to honest?

Should I assume then if you don’t start with that statement there is a higher probability of the statement not being honest?

I'm guilty of doing this. It's the tl;dr of "I want to stay true to myself and not start lying because it might bother you or hurt your feelings". Imo it sets the expectations at a more constructive level rather than a negative one.

Our brains are wired differently. 🤷‍♀️

“People often ask me” is usually a giveaway for SEO hacking - they insert the SEO-friendly phrase immediately afterwards

While we're on the meta topic, my pet peeve is people posing questions but then never engaging with any replies. Gtfo with that idea harvesting.

“According to my sources…” this post is definitely on 🎯
