Iโ€™m going to be one of those parents who never properly learned to play a musical instrumentโ€ฆ so my kid(s) will be taking music lessons.

I might actually learn it with them if theyโ€™re not too embarrassed having me around.

I really enjoy going to my kidโ€™s guitar lessons.

I think I will too!

i'm half that kid, you'll never guess what instrument i played for 5-6 years

wind instrument? ๐Ÿ’จ

โœ…

There are so many of them and I donโ€™t even know most of their names ๐Ÿ˜„

clarinet ๐Ÿ˜„

Ok that one I do know ๐Ÿ˜„

Awesome! You were in a band in school?

oh, i studies in music school in addition to real school since i was like 9 yrs old

- music theory/solfege

- music history

- piano

- clarinet studies

- orchestra

Thatโ€™s great, t. That makes you a musician in my book. ๐Ÿ˜Š

recommend it for your kid, but they also need a lot of love, support and patience, as it can be a lot, especially when it comes to instruments that are not considered the "sexiest" during teenage years

Iโ€™d like them to learn one, any one they enjoy playing even if they have to change instruments every 2 months to find the one they love. I wonโ€™t be the one deciding which. Support, love, patience, those are a given.

based mom alert

I'm an awful guitar player but my son is pretty good

I teach guitar lessons, and think the parent taking lessons is great! I would say let the lesson focus a touch more on your progress, that way you can help at home, and your child learns from you as you learn from the teacher. Also, my Mom learned guitar with me when I was 8 for the first couple of months; she couldn't keep it up after that, but I did!

Great tip. Thank you

A very good point โค๏ธ Learning alongside your children is nothing to be ashamed of; on the contrary, it sets a wonderful example that it's never too late to learn.

Playing music with your kids is next level ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Ours will listen to other people better than either of us for things like that. He went to piano lessons for a bit. Now he's on to bass guitar with online class. He did listen to Cheese a bit with the trombone and euphonium though. The most fun for Jr has been harmonica because it sounds musical without much effort ๐Ÿ˜‚. We have all sorts of musical things around the house...we could do a low brass trio ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿคฃ

Learn to play the hands first. All kids and non-musical people can play the hands. Then you can play the sticks, followed by the pots and pans. The rest of the instruments are much easier after that. nostr:npub1ymt2j3n8tesrlr0yhaheem6yyqmmwrr7actslurw6annls6vnrcslapxnz suggested singing to help with better speech, also. These things probably all go together. So you and your kid can play the mouth and the pans and the sticks and be Phil Collins.

For real.. top tips!

We can someday su-su-suddio like Phil. The guy can play drums.

When I started learning guitar, I was 6 or 7 and my mom decided to learn too so we would practice together

I started learning piano at around 10, but got over it pretty quick, mainly because I was told to learn it. I've always hated being TOLD to do anything!

Ooo I was never told to thankfully. Music was just in my soul. I still play several instruments ๐Ÿซ‚
