The more I think about how nostr would make scan-to-identify apps better (particularly ones like MushroomID), the more reasons I find that it would just fit. To some extent, people could find other somewhat local people via found species without disclosing a bunch of personal information. Scan results could be used in nostr knowledge bases. One could zap professionals for assisting with identification where the AI fails. Or find sellers of domestic grown edibles of off wild-find results. You could run a mushroom species based WoT style relay just for foraging & learning, so real life activity takes place at the center and learning takes place at the edges, or sorted by species & related species. Scan results could link to recipes or... med-nostr stuff for safety advisories and emergency treatment info. I could probably go on. It's just one of those wishlist things so I'll stop. ๐Ÿ˜…

That's a fascinating idea: wot could be seen as mycelium. ๐Ÿฅฐ

I'm surprised there hasn't been mushroom oriented stuff built yet. It's such a popular thing, both broadly and with people already using nostr. There's at least a couple active sellers, dedicated hashtags, who knows how many random untagged finds. It's even one of the most common analogies already. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Well, communities are lacking, but in development. That will improve as a few of non-idiotic devs keep progressing on things.

If I'm understanding your use of the term correctly, I don't view communities as a necessary component of this at all, but I'm sure they'd be beneficial in their own way.

Are we talking about selling ๐Ÿ„ on nostr? If so who is selling them?

i think this site is still active https://www.lightningspore.com/shop/

Yah. I mostly focus on liquid culture production at this point though

So youโ€™re walking in the woods and scanning mushrooms with your phoneโ€ฆ and then what happens next?

A) my scan fails because my camera is dirty from being in the woods taking pictures all day, so I'm presented the option to create a note of some kind that gets sent to mycologists willing to receive them, who can then ask for more or better pictures, spore prints, etc.

B) I found an edible mushroom! I'm presented with notes from other people who also found that species and maybe a recipe or a seller's npub/shop. There's also a link to knowledge bases about it and an option to add my scan with any pertinent information to the cluster.

C.) I found a poisonous mushroom! Relevant advisories display first above all the other stuff with a big button to directly contact health professionals.

There's also some relay that collects my mushroom notes so I can browse, read, and chat about my findings with ease when I'm back home. I see the mycologist answered my question so i zap. It also shows me other people's findings, based on whatever criteria, in my social feed. And I possibly go mushroom hunting with a new friend the next weekend.

Interesting. Whoโ€™s the designated nostr mycologist? How do I verify? ๐Ÿ˜„

There's at least 1 trained mycologist who uses nostr occasionally... whether he would be interested in participating isn't something I could answer. But I'm just envisioning possibilities... in my mind it seems both ecosystems could benefit from eachother.

I have a lot of tasty treats if you want to DM me

Why did I not know this before ๐Ÿ˜

These are mushrooms?

Yep!

Maybe not necessary, but a shared interest and a means to easily communicate about it is certainly desirable.
