Does anyone have a preference on how they consume the show notes with a podcast episode?

Anyone actually read them? What do you like? Anything you look for in particular?

I've been trialling inputting the questions I ask, rather than explaining what the episode discusses

Not sure if it works that well though?

I mainly look to the show notes for their npub & links to things discussed.

Definitely a brief summary of the episode. As well as contact info including social media handles of the guest, and if it's video, chapters of the different topics discussed.

Can't say I ever read them, I usually just pick a title that sounds interesting and listen to it. I use fountain most the time though.

before listening I sometimes skin show notes to see if the content will be of interest

after listening sometimes I look for links mentioned

I don’t read show notes, if you’re on my podcast list, it’s for a reason. Basically the same way people will see a movie with their favorite actor based on nothing more than that.

Inputting the questions asked, along with a time stamp, makes a lot more sense and allows listeners to revisit parts of the podcast that really interested them.

Never once read show notes.

I read the show notes! I like when they contain time stamps with a summary of the topic and any relevant links that were mentioned during the show. Also a plus if they are formatted clearly (some seem to smush everything into one paragraph, making them difficult to read).

Usually i listen while doing other stuff, long drives or manual labour. When in a hurry, i love checking the summary of the questions and find the segment where the one i’m the most interested in is getting asked.

never look at them. but i think there is an opportunity for clients to render them at specific timestamps to make the content more interactive which could be cool

List time stamped “chapters” with the topic therein.

Can we PLEASE standardize the practice of putting “Recorded on” Show notes and onscreen for the first thirty seconds.🙏

Never read them, try and keep mine as short as possible.

i look for info that sometimes is difficult to catch like links to stuff or names of people referenced or mentioned in the podcast.. apart from that don't have much use for them...

For most listeners, show notes work best as a hook plus a skim friendly map of the episode, not just a raw list of questions.

What tends to land well:

2–3 sentence summary of the episode’s core theme.

Bulleted key topics or questions u cover.

Guest info nd key links/resources u mention.

Good question that I wondered about myself. Thanks for asking, I learned a lot for my own podcast reading all the replies. 🤝🏻
