been spinning a lot lately because lounging on the bed is the only way I can be comfortable. I've also been watching a lot of content on about wool processing, spinning and so on. It's got my mind reeling...

Wouldn't it be amazing to buy some raw fleece, process it myself, spin the yarn and knit up pair of socks or a hat? What an experience that'd be. I already tallied up the cost of things I'd need to acquire to get started because I'm a planner

$180-ish for a set of wool combs

$25 for about 1lb of raw, pretty nice quality fleece (I'm thinking Ramboulliet, Corriedale or maybe another similar breed) hopefully already scoured and ready to comb.

so, about 180k sats. If I sell 10-ish pairs of socks, I'd raise the money for it.

Ahh, a girl can dream. I know I'll have to hang up my hobbies for a time while the littles need me the most and I'm okay with that. Until then, it'll be a lot of thinking and not doing which kills me a little inside.

for now... back to my spindle πŸ™‚

I know...I want to learn to spin, but I do not need another hobby 😭. If I ever get a she shed I can fill up with hobby stuff, I'm doing it lol.

We can get rid of all the cameras and ham radios πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

She shed he dead down by the shed door.

On the floor cause he's poor.

Once adored now ignored.

I would never ignore a dead body by my she shed door!!

That's fair, for what it's worth this was a work of poetic fiction.

hey, if you ever want to do spindle spinning, it is cheap as hell to get into.

the caveat is that it puts you much closer to buying a spinning wheel which is πŸ€‘

I know, this is why I'm sticking to my guns on saying no? πŸ˜‚ I also want to try my hand at dyeing, it just looks so darn fun playing with all the colors...

kool-aid and vinegar is how I got my start 😁

I've seen the tutorials for that.

what I wanna try is natural dyeing with locally foraged materials. unfortunately I live smack dab in the middle of suburban sprawl so I don't really know where I could forage πŸ˜•

I love the variations you get from natural dyeing. I used to follow a dyer on instagram that did a ton on naturally dyed yarns 😍. Make sure you share when you get it figured out!!

check back in about a year! maybe two... three? when they go to preschool? πŸ˜‚

I remember my grandma ( my mother's mom) done it, unfortunately we non of us didn't any photos of her

that's very cool. I don't have any history of crafts in my family past. my grandmother knit a little but that was about it.

You can get 3D printed combs (with metal teeth) for about half that price.

I've looked at those but they don't really pay much attention to the ergonomics and curves in the handles for long term use.

Handle shape and material makes a difference when you're holding a tool for an extended period of time.

What is the inverse of a Luddite?

a karo apparently πŸ˜†

I'm agreeable to this neologism.

Go girl! I did the same thingπŸ˜… you know.. just thinking about it.. thinking about it… and then i got 2 huge bags of raw wool from my friend and bought 2 flat brushes for the dog from a local pet store and 3 days just washed the wool. But it was so fun and i appreciate wool even more now. Now i have 4 yarn balls already and planning to try dying😁

that's awesome! I wish I had a sheep friend πŸ˜…

I'd love to see pictures when you get a chance 😍
