I’m a lefty and vegan here on nostr. I’m in the minority and don’t try to be too loud about it just to cause bullshit division.

My passion and convictions are strong, don’t get me works. And I may disagree with you or a note, but I’ll never hate or attack you. And so many of you show me such incredible love and genuine conversation despite our differences. It’s almost silly to even say this, but it really is so rare these days.

Our humanity is inextricably tied to one another. Peace and love is the answer.

Much love to all yall here, seriously ❤️

Good on you for being willing to share your ideals that go against the Nostr mainstream.

Glad to have people like you that break the group think, group speech bubbles that can easily get amplified in a space like this.

Could you explain something to me from a country that politics don’t matter because the party in control will never change..

What defines a lefty or righty where you come from?

I don’t understand USA politics 🤙🏻🙏

Often times bullshit bc everything’s political here.

And depends on the topic.

Typically lefty’s do believe to some degree in social safety net programs from govt, socially left like pro lgbtq, pro-immigration, pro-choice abortion, pro legalization of drugs, among other things

Oooh makes sense.. assume by being “left” you are against Trump?

It doesn’t make sense to me.. if people wanna be whatever they want they should be able to as long as they don’t harm others..

Legalization of drugs would be a good idea but unfortunately they’ll never do it because they make large amounts of money being involved in the economy of it.. certainly from where I am the politicians kill it from drugs and bribes…

I appreciate your openness. The more diverse ideas we have here the better.

most of my closest friends in meatspace are lefties and vegetarians

🫂

> in meatspace...

lol totally missed that

Same. They tolerate me, so long as I don't make the kitchen smell like burnt dead animal. 😅

I hope you guys don't mind that I only eat fish and seafood.

Don't ask me why. It's sooo long that I don't even remeber 😂

Seriously, I hate the meat business for how they tend to treat animals. Cheers to all exceptional humanists. Or animalists 🤔😂

I attempt to only buy meat from local farmers who I know treat animals as well as possible.

I was a vegetarian for about a decade, basically entirely for ethical reasons. I couldn't make myself okay with providing animals with terrible quality of life and then killing them... I still don't feel great about it, honestly. Buying meat from local producers with lovely grass pastures and happy cows that I can see when I drive by helps a little.

or venison

I don't eat it, but I also see how their life is different. They do what they want until there's a bullet runig through their heart

This is a beautiful sentiment that ought to be celebrated with an IRL steak 😅

As long as you're not being annoying then I really don't care.

If you're one of those meat is murder types then yeah that's cringe.

But if you're more of a person concerned about the ethical, and sustainability issues of factory farming, or say that in some instances veganism can be healthier then I support the discourse.

Personally, I disagree with veganism, however I agree that factory farming is unoptimal, beef, and other meats should be free range, organic, few vaccines, or injections as possible, etc.

I also understand that some people say that veganism generally is healthier, or more optimal, and perhaps it is, however the primary reason, I personally disagree with veganism is meat is more nutrition dense.

The amount of food you would have to consume to get the same nutritional value is way higher.

And yes, I know as a mean of water, and land use, per person per calorie, you get more overall from vegetable production, however meat is better when it comes to protein.

So overall, meat production should become more natural, and locally produced at more sustainable levels (which yes would increase its price), however, meat consumption should still be legal, and allowed even if it's reduced globally as an aggregate.

That being said I think omnivore is optimal for humans, meat is a supplement to the nutrition that is difficult for our bodies to extract from fruits, and vegetables.

You bring up a lot of the points I generally make regarding vegan/carnivore stuffs.

Honestly just want to share some data in this thread for others who might read it.

(This one is just a blog post written over a decade ago, it is difficult to accurately assess the math involved but I have attempted to verify its claims and it certainly has substance)

Diverse opinions and vivid yet polite discussions are how we advance society.

We need more people like you on Nostr!

The older I get, the more my views lean to the right—and the more I eat meat. 😂But I’m all about ‘live and let live.’ We might not agree on a lot, but I respect your views and I’ll never attack you for them.

Keep it up.

sorry...wrong click 🙌🏼

I come from a pretty left wing background myself but the world isn’t going to get any better while people get angry with each other online. My current perspective is to try and build things both online and in my real world community, to the best of my abilities.

It’s weird watching some of what’s going on in the US. On the one hand, the new administration is showing some fascistic traits (going by the definition Mussolini used) but the previous administration was also deeply corrupt and did a lot of damage. I’m trying my best to not get involved, there’s enough problems in the UK to deal with.

Keep doing your thing!

In the end of the day most of what is severely dividing people are these pre-packaged talk points and narratives both political parties deploy to turn people against each other.

We all have lives and are trying to live it to the best of our ability and would be better off helping one another and trying to learn from one another than finding flaws in each other and pointing out this societal issue or another and claiming it's all because of the other side.

🤝

Nostr and Bitcoin is for everyone.

We need more lefty's and vegans.

Welcome.

All the righty’s and carnivores are already here lol. We need to orange and purple pill them all, so you may be more effective going forward!

not all. Much work to do

True true, i speak in hyperbole at times 😬

Vegan for 12 years here friend.

Make animals friends again.

Im a righty but know that we need compassion, humility, and common sense. We temper each other. Welcome to Nostr and find your tribe!

I love vegetarianism, Buddhism, libertarianism and Swiss democracy (direct democracy) and Bitcoin. So not exactly in the carnivore boat :D

Just today on https://cornychat.com/ we we're talking about this. It seems what really matters is that we eat food that was ethically produced. There's a lot in common.

Bitcoin is connecting us all, in the way we really should.

It’s good to have disagreements and differing opinions, it just means you have 2 people standing up for what they believe, which in itself is a good thing.

It’s good to debate & it is definitely rare to find a space for doing so in a real constructive manner. It’s refreshing when you find it.

GM, no hate on NOSTR, disagreements yes. Like bro, time to get some real animal protein…you’ll be stacking sats much longer

Optimal human thriving requires kinship-based societies (seen by many as "extreme right," but I which I just see as natural).

And it also requires many basic things to be socially run, like defense of the community; legal defense as well as prosecution, protection from fraud and exploitation, and lots of other things (which many see as "extreme left" but which I also see as just plain natural).

I say break free of the left/right paradigm and do what is best for your people, and try to live in peace with other peoples to the maximum extent possible. NOSTR is the new Philosophical School of Athens, where the best minds, be they disciples of Diodorus or Socrates or Plato or Booth or Pierce, can debate what paths beckon us.

Plus, you get a lot of pictures of meat (which I don't like much, as a person who hasn't eaten meat since Jimmy Carter was running for president for the first time).

But seeing things you don't 100% like is 1) good for the soul and personal growth; and 2) part of the price to be paid for free speech -- and is absolutely worth it.

Left handed people are wrong.

😭 😭 😭

da Vinci too?? Damn

Yup. Even Clayton Kershaw

awesome
