I don't think I ever want an all electric car, how do you all feel about them?
Discussion
In our family 3/4 cars are EVs and we're never buying gas again : ) unless progress on EVs goes backwards
Why is that you don't want it?
Like:
-simplicity
-straight line speed
-tech
Don't like:
-depending on the electric grid
-battery tech and material sourcing
-Outside of Tesla the reliability isn't good. Ford's entire line is in trouble and issuing discounts
-its all software, you can get shut out of your car... if PayPal can shut your account for wrong think then they can do the same with your car
I thought I did. But nahhh gas all day.. it will come down to tgat they will be able to shut your car off from the database hahaha I'm good with all that.
YES
I saw a video once of a college student who built a reinforced recumbent tricycle with a large electric motor and battery. It did 0-60 in 2. something seconds. he took it to a drag racing track and raced cars off the line.
I’d like to have one of those 😆
Though it’s probably best i don’t.
The straight line performance is incredible. The charging and dependency on chargers is in redoble in a bad way
well, yes. so more in the serious vein, i feel that the problem lies in… how soon say this…
the car manufacturing paradigm is laden with establishment greed and corruption. the problem with electric cars is that they are being pushed through that same system.
what i mean is. a gutted 1978 dodge colt with an electric motor and a LiFePo4 48v pack with a simple BMS and a direct potentiometer accelerator is a viable vehicle. is easy to repair and maintain, and can be charged in a couple hours with a panel array.
But the same greed Empire which prevented Tesla’s dream, now stand between us and the technology. And even have the gaul to name their closed establishment vehicles after him.
It seems inevitable that 99% of rod vehicles with be EVs at some point in the not too distant future. Having a gas car will be like having a horse today. Antiquated and for the rich as playthings.
That being said, I fucking hate all the virtual signaling about it.
Had a S & X. The only cars I’ve ever had trouble with.
I now drive a V8 Ford.
The tech is just not there yet.
I've had the Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt, Tesla 3. I'm not a tree hugger. I just don't have my own oil well. I can make electricity through various means but I can't make gas or diesel.
Tech and infrastructure is not quite there for it to be your only vehicle. Although doable. Tough for apartment dwellers that don't have garages with 50amp service though.
The Leaf while a favorite to drive only had 90miles of range. That was an around town car. It covered like 90% of my trips.
The Volt was a jack of all trades it could go 60miles on electric only but had a gas generator that let you go an additional 360 miles. Great for cross country while being all electric for around town and work.
I finally went with the Tesla last. Tesla has charging infrastructure and experience building these cars. They have enough range to go most places. I never had drive train issues but their build quality is so so on finish (paint, interior panels...). If your an apartment dwellers with no high current outlets then this is the way to go.
I drive that car about 99% of the time.
I get home and plug it in like my cell phone. But in reality I can go about a week before needing to charge.
My other car is a 4x4 gas truck.
Diversification - gas, electric, bitcoin, gold, silver, lead, real-estate, monero, equities, and a tiny amount of fiat.
My current vehicle gets 14 miles per gallon, V8, 5.7 litre. I haven’t had to do a single thing, other than regular maintenance and replace the rotors. It’s unstoppable and I love it.
I’ll buy a hybrid, maybe, never an EV.
I think things are going to get worse before they get better. Read the tea leaves, gas vehicle owners will be punished worse and worse even if your favorite politician gets elected. Don't depend on the electric grid either, hedge against inflation with debt by financing solar. I've coyote swapped a mustang, I've spent a year racing at autocross, I've rebuild the heads of a 3000gt in a parking lot, I enjoy formula 1 and rally, I like cars too, but to all the people saying "what happens when the grid goes down?", ask yourself if the gas stations will still be working. Good luck and try to hold on, I don't want fellow freedom lovers getting screwed like the fine people of Appalachia, you know the direction they are taking things so play it to your advantage and don't get caught in the churn.
