Do y’all think we need a PWA marketplace?

What are the challenges of making that?

Does it really solve man in the middle?

What about censorship? Who gets to decide what stays and goes?

How does it get and remain funded / monetized?

Any thoughts on anything?

Not sure what pwa means

Progressive web app.

It is an app that runs in the browser but feels like native app

progressive web apps

Is there a way to verify that the PWA that I’m using is the same as a GitHub version of it claiming to be the same?

🤷‍♂️

Just thinking out loud here, I’d guess the answer is maybe if it only uses local resources, and no if it has any backend.

I guess some sort of open source function that shows some kind of hash would do the trick. Or docker container hash.

My main concerns are:

Upkeep. Not likely profitable

Lots of marketing work required long term - full time job.

Can become a pain to moderate reviews. You effectively become the censor

Dealing with takedown requests and or other complaints a pain

Checking out some of you websites, you are a pro developer man 🙌

I just bought a domain that I’m hoping to do something with, but not good at coding. ZapMe.lol

What if the marketplace is you publishing your app on nostr with specific kind, adding some tags and then people rate and send badges and zaps and add comments?

It will regulate itself like a free market should.

Then whoever wants to add whatever frontend to that.

I guess relay operators could still take down this or that app, maybe based on bad user input to remove the clutter but yet it will be based on some rules and some relays still might have the bad apps if someone really needs them.

The main challenge is that you face two big players that maintain a monopoly because their [app|play]store are a huge revenue stream. Efforts are useless. "All your base are belong to us."

So what is the challenge? Competitor?

Everything has to start somewhere?

I believe a web of trust by each client developer is more realizable. Coracles app page is a good example. Similar page will be added to Bw

I don't think a marketplace is needed.

Just grab every PWA's project github and slap it into Obtainium.

No trusted third party, just you and your devs playing with open source apps🤙

For reference

Not sure what obtanium is but would that not have a great UX without previews, reviews and such?

Obtainium is a projects aggregators directly from the source, that allows to install, remove or check for updates, import and export lists of projects.

Right now reviews are not available, but it is a beta, so probably they will be added (maybe with nostr verification?).

Check their github page for reference https://github.com/ImranR98/Obtainium

How does obtanium verify the build? That it was signed by developer?

Fantastego, graxie vecio! Gò apena instalà!

Manca l'interiezione veneta finale

Par tera par mar! Santoshi!

Pensavo a qualcosa di più colorito, ma va bene anche quello 😂😂

PWAs run in the browser, would there be a need to add to Obtainium?

A PWA is just a Website.

A „Marketplace“ for it would be nothing more than a linklist.

When you think about it, this could be realized with the nostr protocol or something like stacker news

You post a link and when people think it’s useful then they can zap the link.

.. could be a way. Maybe I am naive, but I would love to buy from a marketplace and pay with Bitcoin to be honest. I’ve seen initiatives, but the UX was not nice. There needs to be more incentives in general for what you can really use Bitcoin for. Why not start small with used clothes or everything for the child and used tech? I think it would be a full time job to take care of this. There are funds that promote Bitcoin projects, that could jump in.

I built a PWA marketplace called Appothica a few years ago, and made it open source a few days ago.

You can check it out here:

That's actually a pretty great idea. The main challenge is that you can't install a PWA from another website. So 1-click installs wouldn't be possible.

You could still have a PWA marketplace in a PWA, but it should come with good instructions about how to install PWAs. Users would have to navigate directly to the website and then install the PWA through the browser's UI.

Seems better to have some sort of “app” that installs it for you. Like a mobile browser with one giant button to add to your phone
