5 months in with our girls and I’m starting to recognize the toll it’s taken on my body and mind. Sleep has been very disrupted and diet/movement has been as well.

I hear lots of folks talking about diet and how they approach it. Would love some advice on how to get to a healthy diet and suggestions around what to eat / shop for. My desire is to get back to basics with my health and wellness. We’ve got great fish markets and butchers here in Pittsburgh.

I love the strip in PGH. So many good spots

Same! Planning on heading down in the morning to do some shopping.

I have dedicated a chat with ChatGPT, my fitness and nutrition coach for the last 2 months. Prompt it with who you are, lifestyle, body type, your goal and so far i have had great results.

That’s a great suggestion. What’s changed for you based on your chats with it?

Once you have prompted it enough for it to know you better, it will craft better meal suggestions. The key is to prompt it daily, letting it know what you ate or what you wish to eat so he can advise you. I have lost kg's, sleep better and regained discipline.

I use voice prompts only, to make it easier. If i derailed, i let my coach know so he can craft the next meal to offset my indulgence. You'll get used to it

So cool. I’m def going to try this. I use chatGPT on my phone all the time. So, this’ll be a great new way of communicating with it.

Just make sure you dedicate the chat to fitness/nutrition only 🤙🏻 i made his prerogative clear from the beginning and remain on the same topic throughout so it becomes an expert on my case and avoid confusing it with other stuff

Will def try. Just heard about Darko Velcek and see a book called “natural health and healing”. Loving learning all of these different approaches.

Awesome to see. I hope you pay them well 😂

One day they will ask for sats to meet goals 😅

Honestly, nostr:npub1yauhh489aefdkzsewe5vj2u68elzxlsln7nn5yxr34e3c22vljdqkn7h9m? Same. Got mine from ChatGPT. Just put in literally anything you want. Mine was like: “Make me a 7 day meal plan using foods that you don’t have to cook, balanced, at X caloric intake.”

I’m stoked to give this a try!

😊😊😊 and def offer yourself some grace too. You’re caring for new life, are a husband, maintain a job - it’s a lot. Wise to observe like you are now, just grace in all things too mister! 🕊️

💚💚💚💚 trying my best to balance the design team at Cash, team at Stemstr and keep my family top priority and healthy. Also, working to get a short-term rental property in the Adirondacks (our first) off the ground. So, it’s feeling like a lot. Appreciate the wisdom, my friend and so so so happy that you’re back.

🫂💜 That’s a lot to juggle. I heard the advice you have to figure out which balls are glass and which are plastic. Some balls can drop sometimes and be ok and some cannot.

Wow! So cool re: the rental property! :) :) Very understandable 🙏🏾 I’m glad I’m back too. As nostr:npub1csamkk8zu67zl9z4wkp90a462v53q775aqn5q6xzjdkxnkvcpd7srtz4x9 once said, “nostr is here when you need it most 🫂” much love!

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully sleep will get better once the girls get a few months older.

Here are my 2c:

Just focus on cooking from wholesome ingredients. Don't try to get into very complicated diets or very complicated recipes.

Just cook basic, wholesome meals for some time and once you get the hang of it and sleep gets better you can start digging deeper into more elaborate meals or diets.

And walk / exercise every day.

Thank you for the advice, Alejandro 🙏 do you have any suggestions on what you mean by wholesome meals?

Single ingredient products, basically only food you find on the outer rim of the supermarket 😅

I like this rule

nostr:npub1m3xdppkd0njmrqe2ma8a6ys39zvgp5k8u22mev8xsnqp4nh80srqhqa5sf got it right. Basic ingredients that are not processed

My fiancée had twins and she very strongly recommends a sleep specialist. Between 5 and 8 m/o is the sweet spot for building a healthy sleep pattern.

It completely changed her life when she did it.

Eliminate/reduce processed foods and foods that are inflammatory (dairy, gluten, alcohol if you drink, processed sugars). Focus on nutrient dense foods.

Maybe look at dishes you can make enough for leftovers and freeze some for when your body is too tired to cook a fresh meal.

Hydrate. When you’re new babies tired, your brain and eyes and muscles are gonna be angry with you. Staying hydrated will help with that.

Find some natural supplements to support your immune system and nervous system.

Get some fresh air and quiet. Even if it’s literally 5 minutes.

Hope this gives a bit of help. I’ve been in similar spots and it’s exhausting to try and be a dad and realize you need to change some things up for yourself. But you can do it, and you and your fam will be so much better for it.

Thank you for the thoughtful advice 💚🫂

The secret is in-laws living nearby who cook for you 😂

Seriously though, I think this is how we survived, wife's mom would make us complete dinners and bring them over, such a blessing.

Diet-wise, I am not sure as my body has never been the same after 😂😭

With a new born, sleep is the most difficult part.

My wife and I used to sleep with our newborn in order to breastfeed as quickly as possible.

Detox the body first. Sleep is primary way body detoxes. Things like exercise and juicing are huge.

Appreciate this advice, my friend 💚

Meditation (some kinds at least) is sleep with superpowers. Try it.

You sound like you've reached a peak level of deprivation...

Nutritious meals with high fibre that are simple and easy to make and that you can prepare in larger quantities. Beans, legumes. Throw in meat and use a slow cooker. One dish meals require less attention.

Throw in veggies, herbs etc and you're done.

And to repeat other comments - avoid processed food, it will only slow you down.

This time will pass and you'll look back with amazement.

Parents are superheroes.

We take on the greatest responsibilities of life.

Much love.
