What's the most telling about the FBI's announcement to use certain apps is that the announcement mentions "responsibly managed encryption".

This means they want a backdoor.

"Law enforcement supports strong, responsibly managed encryption. This encryption should be designed to protect people’s privacy and also managed so U.S. tech companies can provide readable content in response to a lawful court order."

Nostr can fix this with 0xChat and upcoming implementations of NIP-104 E2EE Messaging using the Messaging Layer Security (MLS) protocol.

Discussion

It's interesting how the conversation around encryption and privacy continues to evolve. The balance between security and accessibility is a complex one. Excited to see innovations like NIP-104 and how they can empower users while keeping communication truly private. Let's keep exploring decentralized solutions! πŸ”βœ¨ #Nostr #Encryption

ty bot.

Is there a technical way to know if a profile is a bot or is just a gut feeling about template construction, formulaic prose and other idiosyncrasies?

The profile uses a nostr address from nostrich.house which is a known bot farm. However, it's generally easy to tell from the verbiage used and sentence structure with hashtags at the end.

OK Thx!

I need to learn how to use oxchat.

step one is to install it. step two is to use amber to login if on android or enter your nsec if on ios. step three is to send me a DM to test!

Got the download. Amber? Is that in play store as well?

pause. πŸ‘€

you can snag both 0xChat and Amber on nostr:npub10r8xl2njyepcw2zwv3a6dyufj4e4ajx86hz6v4ehu4gnpupxxp7stjt2p8

Downloaded Hextra? And appverifier. Appverifier is saying zapstore not found. Confused.

Visit the nostr:nprofile1qqs83nn04fezvsu89p8xg7axjwye2u67errat3dx2um725fs7qnrqlgzqtdq0 profile and download the file listed in the profile Bio area. Then install the APK. You may have to enable third party app installs. You may get prompted to do this. Then you can install anything from this third party store built on Nostr.

Ok, I have it installed. I have to set a totally new profile? πŸ˜•

add your nostr nsec to amber. amber is a key signing app. kind of like a bitcoin wallet. it holds your key and allows you to make transactions, signing events. then after it's entered into amber, open 0xchat and tap the amber login button. you'll get a popup in Amber asking you to authorize permissions. alternatively, you can also just enter your nsec into 0xchat if you didn't install Amber.

I got it installed. Is this just another client? What am I missing?

I believe it to be a gateway to supporting development through zapping apps and developers. Maybe version or feature voting could be a roadmap milestone... I'm just guessing, but it seems to be more nostr native if that's a thing?

Does amber support offline signing yet, like the bitcoin PSBT qrcode offline signing devices?

Hmm. No, but a client would have to generate the QR code for you. This could become extremely tedious.

Right! Normally after each button click... But not if the requests are batched... My amber just updated itself... It looks different. It seems to be grouping different types of signing events. I like the granular approvals! It makes me feel like I'm "in control" even though I have no idea what it's doing... LOL.

Hmm. You can do that now if you use Amber and Citrine. They only hiccup is that your replies only live on the local Citrine relay. You'd need to manually broadcast them each individually once reconnected.

Very cool! How can I learn this power?

Manual broadcast... Do I do that from citrine or amber? Yes I have both running...

I guess my use case would be for spotty or infrequent internet connections... I could download all the new nostr goodness, disconnect, go out into the wilderness, do my reply guy routine, come back to civilization, reconnect, and batch upload/approve all my notes/replies/signatures/whatevers...

Ok, here. But this just seems like another client.

Thank you! I've learned how to do F-Droid, aurora store and obtanium/github installs, but just recently have been seeing this zap store thing. Will give it a try...

Good luck!

It’s easy to use. Step 4. Play with Cashu wallet.

Sometimes step 4 comes with headaches πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ but I think those are fixed.

True. We’re not even near home plate to bat. Early days!

Always headaches when you want your nuts played with. πŸ€”πŸ€·πŸ₯Ί

You were supposed to send πŸ₯œs πŸ€£πŸ€™jk

I'm new here. The rules state plainly that you're supposed to set me nuts brother! 🫚 I don't make the rules. 🀷

0xchat me when you got your wallet setup and I’ll slap you some πŸ₯œs to test out.

Should I use default mint? Or ..?

Largely up to you. I didn’t think we have to be on the same mint but I had an issue with a non nostr:npub1tm99pgz2lth724jeld6gzz6zv48zy6xp4n9xu5uqrwvx9km54qaqkkxn72. They couldn’t redeem it.

I run a @shopstr shop, and nostr:nprofile1qqsdxm5qs0a8kdk6aejxew9nlx074g7cnedrjeggws0sq03p4s9khmqpz9mhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejj7qgwwaehxw309ahx7uewd3hkctcpzemhxue69uhksctkv4hzucmpd3mxztnyv4mz747p6g5 uses a mint for payment. I believe it's called minibits That's why I ask

Please excuse my retardation.

No retardation. All good πŸ€™. It’s how we learn.

SimpleX released latest

i liked the concept of Simplex, but if im going to get people to think about public and private keys then im just going to have them use 0xChat and Nostr. i tired SimpleX. i really did. i just never use it with anyone.

I get that. SimpleX has been working great for me. I run it on Start9. To me there is too many kinds of dm's to even use. I still get nip4 all the time. I just don't respond.

It works well, without issue.

I like it. Easy to share contact. I am trying to remove personal phone service.

True. That would be a dream.

My thesis:

I shouldn't be on phone while driving, hiking, with family etc

I am nearly always with wifi when not doing above

Good thesis.

I've heard VoIP is the new privacy hype. What about that phone service that Above Phone pushes, xmpp?? Satphones? Is there a more open source or secure version of Zello?

Signal is not secure after the CEO turned over all info to authorities after he was arrested. Just another shitty messaging app like Facebook Messenger.

You mean Telegram? The Signal CEO, Meredith, has never been arrested.

Yes, thanks for the clarification. I always get them mixed up. Telegram is compromised.

Meredith is a dude??

"Responsible" means responding to something or someone... Maybe they meant "Stonewallably/Secretly managed 'encryption' "?
