I agree with this.
Imagine a client that can connect to Ethereum wallets so people can pass tokens around. They would still have to pay the transfer fees, paying in ETH, but it would integrate that entire ecosystem into the existing Nostr social network. It might be a bit confusing for people to try and zap across that barrier, but that would just encourage the development of ways to zap across the blockchain networks. Maybe WBTC?
We don't want to completely restrict Nostr to Bitcoin Only, because we want to focus on adoption first.
I've strangely never seen anyone mention this, but adding Ethereum logins to nostr would be easy af because Ethereum public keys are already longer than the 32 bytes for a nostr key, so you could just use the last 32 bytes of your Ethereum keys as your nostr keys.
And your Ethereum wallet address would still be automatically attached to your account because it only uses the last 20 bytes of your public key.
You wouldn't actually need to make nostr compatible with a full-fledged Ethereum wallet; letting users enter their Ethereum keys to extract the last 32 bytes would just make nostr signing apps their own "Ethereum wallets" that maybe can't handle the transacting functions of an on chain Ethereum wallet, but can use the Ethereum keys to sign nostr events.
This might also work for other cryptocurrencies, I'm not sure. Bitcoin for example seems to have the addresses range from 25 to 34 bytes

this has been my core driver to make a nostr based litecoin / dogecoin utility for us to integrate into the platform.
Not to take away from Bitcoin, Lightning Network or Zaps. but to get the "most senior" of the proof of work ppl into our world as a bridge to a decentralized world

In the end ... all these utilities are functions that can be brought in as features, or filtered out at the relay level. And for those looking to own their data, and manage their social relationships without gatekeepers ...

It was always MUCH easier to transfer between exchanges Litecoin to take advantage of arbitrage trades on the BTC price than anything else back in the day.
AND ... even now ... its a lot easier to move LTC betwen exchanges than trying to triple authenticate to move even the smallest amount of BTC.
Every coin has its value / use ... and of the "crypto" out there ... LTC has always been a useful transporter of value ... much preferred to using a stablecoin or anything else.

Yeah I remember using LTC for transfers because bitcoin transactions were taking a long time to confirm.
That's largely a problem of the past. With the Bech32 addresses used by Native Segwit and Taproot, transaction times are shorter than ever, and cheaper, too.
In my opinion, you have to get involved with the competition to truly understand the qualitative differences between Bitcoin and alternative cryptocurrencies.
I had my fair share of LTC transactions from time to time before becoming a Bitcoiner, and it served me well.
This is, in fact, a very unpopular opinion.
You get #Bitcoin at the price you deserve & you get #Nostr at the level of enlightenment you've achieved.
There's absolutely zero value add in embracing communities that are tethered to the toxic status quo systems.
Let them thrash about on Web 2.0 until they are completely sick of what it has to offer.

Not saying that it doesn’t make sense in theory, but technically that already exists (damus requires the zap add on downloaded and installed separately to use or receive zaps) and really does it make any difference… personally I think it’s more about new users being pressured to link a lightning wallet when they join. I don’t generally say anything about zaps or sats when welcoming new people unless they ask

The desire of inclusivity seems to come from the psy op of tolerance we have been brainwashed with by our progressive liberal culture in the west. As if it’s a virtue. Aligns with “everyone is beautiful” and concepts of the like, which is lying to yourself 100%.
What you don’t notice is that Bitcoin is acting as a filter to keep the ugly people out. So no: let’s not create a means to bypass this filter.

Since we are all in control of our Nostr feeds, why would we need non-Bitcoin clients to support non-Bitcoin content? Wouldn't it still end up in Global anyway? And if it does, we just do what we already do: follow the content creators who create the content we want to see. Anyone can start using Nostr. But no one is forced to follow them.
As a non-bitcoin person myself (as in I had no idea who Odell was before joining Nostr, nor did I have any idea that laser-eyed avatars were a thing) I think a client aimed at non-bitcoin people shouldn't be one without zaps. Zaps via Primal with its built-in wallet that can be topped up over iOS feel no different than virtual currencies the likes of which you would top up in a casual mobile game. I think other non-bitcoin people would have a great time with zaps without at first needing to know anything about what's under the hood (at least if coming on via a client that had an integrated wallet, that's the key). Just like buying gems or gold. A cool feature, fun, something to promote rather than hide away. And when it’s time to cash out, well then instant motivation to figure out the basics.
I think it's other aspects of clients that are resulting in the overall low retention rate.
