Sorely needed- a cheat sheet for new parents.

How do we get all the baby stuff required, and sort through all the fiat adverts without losing all our sats? get the highest quality longest lasting stuff for the baby-toddler years for the least sats? What about prevent baby from having plastic balls and lungs and get it to eat healthy and grow big and strong?

Nostr loves babies, bitcoiners want more babies, parenting is all the rage, but #babystr has no content and new parents are stuck sorting through legacy fiat world using AI to help sort things!

My best tip is baby lead weaning. At 6months my kids started with whole foods. I steamed the crap out of things but I never had to puree

Uh okay cool parenting style thought, but any idea what kind of freaking high chair to get? I just googled high chairs and had a brain aneurysm.

A basic folding one with a harness

We went with one that allowed us to remove the chair as we were planning on 2 thinking we could separate the chair part for the younger one then high chair for the oldest. (I can send photos tonight)

For stroller get a foldable one for travel & a numatic tire one for walking from the house.

We were not in the mindset of plastic bad at that point in our lives. Will say my daughter was easy on the crib, my son thought he was a beaver and I end up sanding of paint because he was taking it off with his teeth.

When it comes to teething “gripe water” is a godsend it tastes like pickle juice.

For soother I will say you can't lose a thumb, & now my kids 5 still sucking it 🤷‍♂️

Get Mrs Tortuga a HaaKaa manual pump it was the breast thing we tried after like 3 battery powered units

Whatever “the ikea highchair” is, that one for the first highchair

We’re doing baby led weening, it’s hilarious and definitely works

My only advice: don't let the baby sleep in your bed.

Crate train the baby

I thought about it cuz it worked for the dog but learned they’ll get taken away by some gov agency called DCF.

Fuckin 3 letter agencies man.

Just don’t let them find out.

Spook alert.

🫥 I was never here

Worst advice ever. This depends 100% on your baby. Some sleep great by themselves while others want to be very close. I don’t think humans evolved sleeping in a separate cave from their parents. Just my 2 sats

Let them fall asleep with you then move them to the bassinet.

The alternative is your sex life is over til the kid hits high school.

In the old times kids were many and were sleeping in the same bed. On the other hand adults had separate bed even when married. We are doing all the opposite

Yeah. I saw Willy wonka

So if I’m gathering opinions here, on one hand I can let them sleep in something other than my bed, on the other I should buy a cave and we should all sleep together on rocks?

You got it. Choose wisely.

Some babies are crate trained. Its just called a playpen or crib.

Public schools

Put a raccoon in there with it. They will both benefit.

My mom had a pet raccoon when she was little and she loved it so yes

I had three pet raccoons as a kid, they were awesome.

Solid!

I second this except when the kid is freaking out for no reason because the crib is lava or something and nobody is getting any sleep. Then throw the kid in bed with you and get some sleep and try the crib again after a few days.

Right…

But the question wasn’t for parenting style advice, it was actually about identifying parenting equipment and minimizing expenses.

What the hell kind of crib is a good crib? I just googled cribs and I’m inundated with more advertising than a freaking tech conference.

A basic 100000-150000⚡️crib with height adjustment. Might be able to get one used. Either way you need to buy the mattress separate. Don't be lured into the convertible nonsense or built in drawers.

Yeah, we got a convertible crib. The idea of it turning in to a headboard and footboard was a nice thought except for that whole kid gnawing on the crib rails... We didn't pay a ton for the crib and we did use it to transition to a big bed when he outgrew the crib mattress. If you buy and can keep it nice, there is a market for secondhand baby gear.

A good crib is one that has good reviews and isn't hella complicated, you don't need a million attachments. Ours had a couple of different places for mattress height. I used an old dresser with a changing pad for his changing table and clothes. Get things that you can use as the baby gets older, not themed things that won't go with anything else.

Also are congrats in order?

Our was wood lol.

Ours was second(but likely 4th or 5th)hand from my cousin. Check garage sales and thrift stores. See if you guys have a kid to kid. Its a secondhand store for kid stuff and they dont take anything thats been recalled. As long as the slats aren't a size where a bitty could get body parts stuck, you're good. Get sleepsacks or nightgowns or footie pjs and dont use a ton of blankets or stuffies. My first 2 kids slept in the crib both of my brothers used. We used a Moses basket until he started moving more because its easier to keep them in a bassinet or something in your room for the first couple months.

The Moses basket was also a hand me down from family that both of my older kids used.

You could literally use a drawer for a crib. Don't get swept up in the ads and propaganda and spend big sats on a crib. Babies are potatoes the first few months lol

Also, co-sleeping is free and best for baby (and mom) the first six months.

Yeah until they are mobile you can just leave 'em anywhere. Once they can crawl you have to start containing them.

Start by using great diapers, like Charlie banana cloth diapers. You won't waste sats on disposable and so much healthier for your baby.
