Just need more space, and to free up more of the 50-55 hours a week that I’m currently burning up in the fiat mine lol.
Yeah it’s cool how many beets you can produce on a single 6x6 bed.
Looking forward to these beds being a secondary source and having a primary garden plot 20yd x 40yd so we can do more.
And we have to get some protein production going. I have the materials to build a quail setup. Just need the time once hunting season and canning are done for the year.
Beautiful produce! Bigger isn’t always better, you are doing great. You can always find new ways to maximize space and produce more on a small footprint. Something to be said for keeping things compact, manageable and productive enough to fulfill your needs without over producing.
Protein and dairy are definitely tougher to pull off small-scale though.
Your doing well, maybe add some trellis/cattle panels to use the verical space for peas, beans, squash, cucumber to get more out of the space and create some shadey microclimates.
We call this freedom through responsibility on our homestead.
I recognise that not everyone has the space, resources and time to be fully self sufficient but little steps and small improvements make a big difference over time.
Yes. It is up to us to be ultimately responsible for our essentials. I just wish I had this aim and knew the importance of it from an earlier age.
I hope my kids don’t just hear the wah wah wah like the parents’ voices in Charlie Brown cartoons when I’m trying to teach these lessons. People rarely learn the important lessons without the pain associated with ignoring them.
