I can't pick this thing. I cleaned it and now it's somehow the most precisely-built lock the world has ever seen. I've tried everything. I used a bunch of picks and tensioners, a burnt potholder, a multi-color ink pen, two other picked locks, a fake Dupont lighter, a 1 oz. silver bar, a AAA battery holder, some tangerine lip balm, Nintendo games, a 2.7V 10F capacitor, an empty American 1100 box, and a rubber maggot. Nothing has worked.

Rubber maggot? Is that a thing?!

Also, if you would recommend a solid lock pick starter kit, would greatly appreciate

Some of both of those in there, plus some Peterson. I'm going to have to throw some dirt in the thing.

Less expensive than most random hobbies. Might see me on pickstr soon 👀

Yeah, go for it. Ask around for locks with lost keys or see if a locksmith has a junk bucket you can dig through. Also, industrial places always have LOTO locks that are missing keys.

Good tips, thanks. You each have pending zaps coming your way (lousy delay…)

Yeah, our kid has a bunch of fake gross stuff so there are maggots and vomit and poop everywhere.

I always suggest this: https://covertinstruments.com/products/learn-lockpicking-bundle

Or this: https://covertinstruments.com/products/genesis-lock-pick

The aforementioned kid can open enough stuff with that kit that I keep Abloy cores around for locking important things.

Thanks, I’ll give this a look

LockPicking is a very fun hobby

Seems like it. Tools are cheap enough that feel confident I can yolo order the basics and not have any remorse even if they mostly sit unused in a “go bag”

Holy crap this abloy stuff is really neat.

Yeah, disc detainer is crazy. Rear-tension DD picks are basically homemade and like 500 bucks. I have a nice Abus DD that is not really pickable without special tooling.

And now I'm reflecting on how I have very few locks that actually get used to lock things...

When I live in Sarajevo my front door had a lock that you turned many times and it literally lifted the door out of a steel groove in the frame. It was incredible. The key had teeth and 3d dimples on the side. It was hardcore I want that door again.

High tech!

Ya it was so cool.

Ugh yes. Our locks here are all boring and suck.

One stick of dynamite, you're welcome

Have you tried violence?

I'm not ruling it out.

Don't you judge my potholder. It's just well used.

I was just being descriptive. It's a very nice potholder. A tremendous potholder.

A beautiful potholder.

Well, I spoke too soon. The only thing I didn't try was the OG Bogota rake. I swear those things are blessed with wizard magic or something.
